There are so many things I love about the holiday season. There are so many traditions I look forward to.
And one thing I have loved since I was a little girl was watching The Nutcracker. It is such a beautiful ballet. It really puts you in the holiday spirit. And it is something children and adults can watch together.
There are a lot of good productions of The Nutcracker, but a truly spectacular one would have to be Boston Ballet’s version. Mikko Nissinen’s The Nutcracker is really great. Nissinen is a Finnish ballet dancer (a former dancer with the Dutch National Ballet and San Francisco Ballet) who is the artistic Director of Boston Ballet.
And it really is a great version. The Boston Globe once called Boston Ballet’s Nutcracker “the granddaddy of them all”. So if you are lucky enough to see this version of The Nutcracker, you are very lucky!
The Boston Ballet will be performing The Nutcracker from November 24, 2023, through December 31, 2023. They’ll be performing at the Citizens Bank Opera House. The venue is conveniently located in Downtown Crossing. That means you’re within walking distance from multiple subway stops (the Orange Line Downtown Crossing & Chinatown T Stops, The Green Line Park & Boylston T stops, and The Red Line Park & Downtown Crossing T stops). If you are driving, there are also lots of parking garages in the Theatre District & Downtown Crossing area near The Citizens Bank Opera House.

So I love almost everything about seeing The Nutcracker during the Christmas season. The one thing I don’t love about it? How high the ticket prices are! It seems like all the cheapest tickets on Boston Ballet’s website get bought right away. And the holidays are expensive enough without adding this expense.
