About St. Louis’ City Museum
This event takes place at St. Louis’ City Museum, a unique museum in the Washington Avenue Loft District. It is housed in a 600,000-square-foot former International Shoe Company warehouse. The City Museum is both an urban playground and interactive art installation. Since opening in 1997, it has been recognized quite a lot, including:
- Named one of the “great public spaces” by the Project for Public Spaces
- Ranked ninth on the the country’s “Best Immersive Art Experiences” list by readers of USA Today in 2025
- Won runner-up for “Best Children’s Museum” by readers of USA Today in 2025
So it is only fitting that the Halloween event at the City Museum combines great Halloween decor and interactive play!
Fright at the Museum
Fright at the Museum is a seasonal event at the City Museum. It starts today (September 30th) and runs through November 1st, 2026. There are fun things for adults and children to do at this event.
Fright-tastic Exhibits
Since art is a big part of the City Museum, it makes sense that there are great decorations all over the museum. This includes spiders, skeletons, Jack-O-Lanterns, and more!
The Organist’s Awakening
The St. Louis Theatre Organ Society’s haunting ballads will be performed by a skeleton on a restored 1924 Wurlitzer Theatre Organ that was rebuilt directly into the walls of the museum’s Enchanted Caves. The music will reverberate from the 1st floor to the rooftop skylight shining down from the 11th floor.
Wandering Ghouls
As the museum’s building approaches its 100th birthday, a few former residents have decided to get in on the celebration with a visit. They are even gracious enough to haunt at specific times. You can find them at Enchanted Caves at the following days and times:
- Fridays: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm
- Saturdays: 5:30pm to 8:30 pm
- Sundays: 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Doc Terminus’ Odditorium
This show takes place at Architecture Hall on the 3rd Floor. Doc Terminus and his crew of misfits will perform a variety show featuring sideshow performances, flaming swords, and more!
Happy Haunted Harmony Circus
Witches, a skeleton crew, and others entertain in a family-friendly show.
Not-So-Spooky Storytelling
The City Museum Witch will be telling stories on the 4th Floor at Sullivan Gallery. There are blankets, pillows, and rugs for the younger ones so they can get cozy during story time. There are also benches for us adults.
Coven & Cauldron
Speaking of adults, as I said earlier, there is definitely fun for adults at this event, and here is one place you can find them. Head to the Cabin Inn Bar on the first floor, where you can enjoy the ultimate witches’ pub experience. Here you can try drinks like the Poison Apple cocktail.
Vampire Bar
The Cowboy Bar on the third floor has been transformed into the Vampire Bar. Step into the shadows and enjoy drinks like crimson True Blood cocktail or the Zombie Shot.
Mad Scientist’s Lab
Beatnik Bob’s on the 3rd floor has been transformed into Mad Scientist’s Lab, where the test chambers are full of concoctions. Try a Fall Old Fashioned or PSL White Russian here.
