Chinese New Year At The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a city that loves to celebrate cultural diversity and holidays.  So it’s not surprising that the city goes all out for Chinese New Year.

2021 is the Year of the Ox.  It is believed that the animal ruling your birth year influences your personality and ultimately your destiny.  The Chinese New Year begins on February 12, 2021, and runs through February 17, 2021.

Each year, The Venetian Resort Las Vegas transforms itself with celebratory decorations.  You’ll see a grand display in the Waterfall Atrium.  A Feng Shui Master is consulted to make certain every cultural detail is considered.

Their photo-worthy art installation features a 13-foot colossal ox named Alessandra Heng.  Alessandra means “defender of mankind” and pays homage to her home in Italy.  Heng means “steady and persistent.”  The second animal in the Chinese zodiac, the ox is known as intelligent, honest, and reliable.  Smaller versions of Alessandra are hidden throughout the resort.

The Year of the Ox’s element is metal.  This is represented by Alessandra’s metallic golden horns, nose, hooves, and tail as well as her golden armor.

Alessandra is surrounded by IChing coins displaying the Chinese symbols for prosperity, good health, happiness, and luck.  Red and gold Chinese lanterns illuminate the art installation.
