Le Croisic, France Travel Guide
Le Croisic is a coastal town in Brittany, France, known for its fishing industry. It is situated on a peninsula to the west of Cote d’Amour. The town faces the inner bay of Grand Traict which feeds adjoining salt marshes.
Le Croisic has over 100 fishermen and 33 fishing boats. It also has significant shellfish production, being France’s main center for cockle farming. You can travel the Route des Coquillages – Shellfish Trail – visiting producers, taking guided tours, eating at recommended restaurants, and viewing the beds.
The center of Le Croisic is its historic district, dominated by the 16th century Church of Notre-Dame-de-Pitie. The town center has many 16th century houses, many with ornately decorated stonework. The most notable buildings are the 15th-century Mansion de Kervaudu and the 17th-century Hotel d’Augiullen.
You’ll find numerous cafes and restaurants along the harbor front with fish dishes being the specialties. Enjoy delicious shellfish, sea bass, and fish stew.
Visitors enjoy Oceanarium du Croisic. Its Lagoon has species from they coral reef. Walk through an underwater tunnel and see winged rays and Australian sharks.
Espace Escargot is a snail farm. Learn about the business of raising snails and then taste the creatures.
Other popular activities for visitors include taking a scooter tour of the salt marshes and taking a coastal cruise.
