Manhattan By Sail has two of the largest sailing vessels in the New York Harbor. Aboard the Shearwater and Clipper City, they share the joy of sailing with visitors and locals alike. Since 1972, they have introduced hundreds of thousands to the pleasure of sailing New York City’s waterways.
Clipper City Tall Ship
The Clipper City Tall Ship is 158 feet long with masts rising 120 feet. She can comfortably sail 149 people, the most of any passenger sailboat in the country. 6 crew members will be hauling on the sails and you can help raise the sails if you want. This large sailboat waist high railings with a big open deck (100 feet by 30 feet). The Clipper City departs from Pier 35 just north of the Manhattan Bridge on the East River Waterfront Esplanade.
Shearwater Classic Schooner
You’ll be taken back in time to the Roaring 20s on the Shearwater Classic Schooner, a beautifully restored 1020 sailing ship. It was built to sail around the world and it has many times. At 82 feet long and 16.5 feet wide, she is one of the largest sailboats of her era. A spiral staircase takes you down to an exquisite mahogany interior. The Shearwater is docked at North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place in Lower Manhattan.
Craft Beer Sail
Go on a Craft Beer Sail and savor a line up of craft beers and hard seltzers. Taste all of them and then pick a favorite. Enjoy unlimited beer. Snacks will be available for purchase. The beer is from the Bronx Brewery and their representatives will be on the cruise. They can answer any questions you might have about beer or the brewing process.
Wine & Jazz Sail
Enjoy an open wine bar and a jazz concert on the Wine & Jazz Sail. Listen to the rhythms of smoky blues, bebop, ballads and other jazz standards as you sail the harbor. Manhattan By Sail partners with Jazz Generation to host some of NYC’s top jazz musicians. It’s a fantastic sail for music lovers and wine aficionados with an evening of dancing, drinks and great music. Cocktails will be available for purchase.
Location
On both these sails, you’ll be cruising in New York Harbor. Take in the sights of the majestic Manhattan skyline. You’ll see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, famous landmarks and so much more. See the harbor monuments and the lovely waterfront parks.
