New York City Easter Parade & Bonnet Festival is a spontaneous event that takes place every year on Easter Sunday. Fifth Avenue will be closed off from 49th Street to 47th Street and the fun will begin.

Hundreds of people in funny, inventive and weird costumes will begin the march down Fifth Avenue, attracting crowds of spectators. Anyone can participate. Bonnets are essential to the marchers. You’ll see hats piled high with eggs, fruits or flowers. There have been hats with live animals on top, including a rabbit and a pet snake. Some hats are small while others are enormous. All are worth seeing because it seems imagination in New York City knows no bounds.

New York City’s Easter parade has a 130 year history. Women wore their finest clothes and most beautiful hats. In the 20th century, the NYC Easter Parade was one of the largest in the country. In recent years, it’s become more flamboyant, extravagant and colorful.

For a lot of New Yorkers, brunch is a part of their weekend. And Easter Brunch in the city becomes a more sophisticated brunch experience.
