American Prohibition Museum

Are you fascinated by the prohibition era of the United States?  Do you love imagining the roaring ’20s and speakeasies?  Well, the only place to go in America to really learn about it is the American Prohibition Museum!  And that is because the American Prohibition Museum is the one and only Prohibition Museum in America!

The American Prohibition Museum is in Savannah, Georgia.  The Historic Tours of America owns and operates the museum.  It does an amazing job of really capturing an era in United States history.

The American Prohibition Museum takes you back in history.  They use immersive displays & state-of-the-art dioramas to help you learn and really experience it.

They actually take you all the way back to the early 1900’s so you can get an idea about why Prohibition was passed.  You learn about the anti-alcohol rallies that changed public opinion.  You find out how the “booze problem” became a huge part of American politics which led to the passing of the 18th Amendment.

Then learn about the subsequent thirteen years of living in a dry America.  You also learn about the far-reaching consequences the 18th Amendment had and how it shaped our nation moving forward.

Costumed docents are there to help guide and teach you about this era.  To help set the mood, there are Restored Prohibition-era vehicles.  There are also over 200 historic artifacts on display.

Displays

And then there are those amazing displays!  They really make you feel like you stepped into a time machine.  Here are a few of the highlights:

  • A recreated 1918 Street Scene
  • A Tent Revival with Reverend Billy Sunday, a fire and brimstone preacher, Reverend Billy Sunday
  • Carry Nation’s Hatchetations & a bar that was demolished by her signature hatchet
  • Adolphus Busch & Lillian M.N. Stephens squaring off & pleading their side of the argument
  • A dimly lit Moonshine Scene in the heart of America’s wilderness
  • A Speakeasy bar, which actually serves authentic cocktails of this time period!
