The Reptile Zoo is home to the most extensive collection of reptiles in the Pacific Northwest. At the Zoo, you can get up close and personal with exotic reptiles from around the world.
See snakes, lizards, turtles, and alligators walk around their enclosures. All poisonous snakes have been surgically devenomized. See cobras, a horned viper, rattlesnakes, corn snakes, and the world’s deadliest snake, the black mamba.
One of the most popular of the scaly creatures is the albino alligator. Biologists estimate there are only about 100 albino alligators on the planet. A genetic defect causes their body to be unable to produce melanin in their skin. Their eyes have a pinkish hue and their skin is a yellowish white color. This color makes them unable to blend into their surroundings in the wild and this makes them easy prey. Extremely sensitive to sunlight, their skin can be easily burned by the sun.
Another zoo favorite is the two-headed turtle. You can also see an enormous anaconda, giant tarantulas, color-changing chameleons, and a huge boa constrictor.
The Reptile Zoo is home to over 200 animals. There is a tortoise petting area. It is also home to invertebrates, including some of the world’s largest centipedes, spiders and cockroaches.
