2025 Guide for the San Gabriel Lunar Lantern Festival

The City of San Gabriel is partnering with World Journal, America’s largest Chinese language newspaper, to present the San Gabriel Lunar Lantern Festival on February 1 and 2, 2025.  Enjoy delicious food, vendor shopping, activities for kids, lovely lanterns and live entertainment.  The Lunar Lantern Festival is free and open to the public.  Parking is also free.

Festival Hours

  • Saturday, February 1 – 10 am to 9 pm
  • Sunday, February 2 – 10 am to 7 pm

Come, celebrate the Year of the Snake at the Lunar Lantern Festival in the historic Mission District.  You will see a spectacular collection of lantern displays for San Gabriel’s partnering cities in Taiwan.  These displays are inspired by Taiwan’s world famous Lantern Festival.  Come see the lanterns and stay to enjoy the fun!

Children can receive complimentary zodiacs, animal shaped lanterns and can participate in family friendly activities.

The Mission District will be decorated with vibrant, intricately crafted lanterns, creating an immersive experience.  There will be a small lantern garden, which will be perfect for photo ops.

You can take part in a complimentary walking tour and learn about the rich history of the Mission District.

Food trucks and food vendors will be at the festival with food and beverages available for purchase.  You can expect to see skewers, boba, noodles, squid, dumplings, bugolgia and sweet treats.  You can also find hot dogs, fries, snacks and so much more.  

There will be an entertainment stage.  You’ll see Lion Dance troupes, traditional Chinese folk dance, hip hop, singers, children’s groups and more.
