Phoenix’s El Grito Festival is a celebration of Mexican Independence Day. Admission to the festival is free!
Mexican Independence Day commemorates the day when a Catholic priest, Miguel Hidalgo, called on Mexicans to rise up against the colonial government of Spain. This happened on September 15, 1810 in the town of Delores. Father Hidalgo gave his famous battle cry, El Grito. The people rallied behind the movement and this was the beginning of Mexican struggle for freedom.
The El Grito Festival is returning to downtown Phoenix on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 4 pm to 11 pm. It will be at 3rd Avenue and Adams Street, Immerse yourself in the rich culture, delicious cuisine and live entertainment of Mexico.
Entertainment
There will be live entertainment throughout the festival. Performers include
Tropicalisimo Apache
Tropicalisimo Apache is a Latin music group from Torreon in northern Mexico. They are known for their energetic music that’s easy to dance to. Their hits include “Ojitos Mentirosos,” “La Hierba Se Movia,” “Viento” and “Tumbala.”
Banda La Parrandera
Banda La Parrandera is one of the most popular bands in Mexico. They are known for Sinaloense style of music, languid and mysterious. They give a great show with their contagious rhythm and they keep the crowd dancing and singing along.
Mariachi Rubor
Mariachi Rubor is an all female Mariachi Band. They’re known for dynamic performances. The band blends traditional Mexican music with contemporary flair.
Dueto Las Voces del Rancho
Dueto Las Voces del Rancho is a regional Mexican band whose members are Edgar Rodriquez and Mariano Fernandez. They play many traditional song styles with a uniquely contemporary styles.
You can watch Lucha Libre matches. There will be arts and crafts booths where people can showcase their unique creations.
