Do you want to have some spooky fun stepping in the shadows in New Orleans and hearing their vampire legends? If your answer is yes, you should go on Pretty Spooky Tours’ Vampire Tour.
Explore the eerie world of vampires and their dark rituals. Your guide will be a master storyteller. You’ll hear about vampire sightings, mysterious disappearances and the blood thirsty legends. You can’t go far in the French Quarter without passing a site infamous for its vampire lore.
The vampire stories originated with France settling New Orleans in the 1700s. The first French settlers were all men. The King of France sent a group of girls to marry the French settlers. Each girl had a casket shaped box of different sizes, presumably to carry their belongings. The casket boxes were stored on the third floor of the Ursuline Convent in New Orleans. The girls stayed there until they got married.
The mortality rate rose steeply with the girls’ arrival with the infant mortality rate highly affected. The casket boxes at the convent were found to be empty. Legend has it that the casket boxes are still on the third floor and no one is allowed to go on that floor.
The St. Germaine House on 1401 Royal Street was the home of Jacques St. Germaine in 1902. He was a socialite who loved to have parties. He served delicious food but was never seen to eat any. He only drank glasses of red wine, one after another.
A woman accused St. Germaine of trying to bite her neck and St. Germaine left town. The police searched his house and found no food but found many bottles of red wine mixed with blood.
Does your city have legends of vampires? So why does New Orleans? Actually, it’s easy to imagine vampires creeping from the shadows of crypts or prowling for victims in the dark alleys in the French Quarter.
Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles” are set in New Orleans.
New Orleans hosts two major annual vampire themed masquerade balls. The Endless Night is a major part of a global series of vampire balls and it is held at the House of Blues. The Anne Rice Vampire Ball honors the author and is organized by her fan club. It features music, costumes and unique entertainment.
Your guide will tell you about all this and more. So take the tour and see the sites. And then decide for yourself. Do you agree with many locals who believe that vampires still walk among us in New Orleans?
