Last weekend, my family had the pleasure of visiting Kings Dominion for their annual Christmas event, Winterfest. We were excited about seeing all the Christmas lights and the holiday shows.
But I was also excited about trying the Winterfest-themed restaurant, the Classic Christmas Café. My family loves the traditional food you eat at Thanksgiving and Christmas, so we thought the menu here sounded great. So I wanted to tell you about our experiences.
First Impressions
The Classic Christmas Café is located in Candy Cane Lane. It is essentially the Country Kitchen restaurant, repurposed for the holiday event. It is located in the Old Virginia section.
And when I say repurposed, I am referring to the new name, the menu, and the holiday decor up. It still has a great Virginia country feel to it, too.
Now, this is not a sit-down restaurant. You order your food and then take it back to your table.
But one thing I really like about this restaurant is that there are lots of tables indoors. There are also tables outdoors.
Now, when I went to Winterfest back in 2019, there was a long line. So I made sure to come to the restaurant earlier in the night. And we had no trouble getting a table.
Menu Review
But all those things wouldn’t matter if I didn’t like the food, right? Well, luckily they have a delicious menu.
They have sliced Virginia honey ham and sliced turkey. It comes with stuffing, cranberry, and a cornbread muffin. It also comes with one side. The sides are mashed potatoes with (or without) turkey gravy, mac & cheese, green beans, and candied yams.
You can also get a Chicken Tender Basket or a Harvest Salad. You can also order a side salad, Christmas cookies, and Christmas parfait.
For drinks, you can get water, fountain drinks (sodas like Coke), coffee, hot chocolate, and energy drinks. You can a refillable hot chocolate mug or a refillable mug for your fountain drink.
One negative of the menu, though, is that the prices aren’t cheap. The sliced turkey dinner and sliced ham dinners are $16.99, and that does not include drinks. You can add a fountain drink on for $3.99, but that means your meal is about $21. The chicken tender basket is $15.99. You can obviously get a cheaper meal if you went to a fast-food restaurant, like the Burger King across the street from the King Dominion.
So is the food worth it? Well, no one in my family ordered the chicken fingers. But were the turkey and ham dinners worth it? Well, that’s what I want to tell you!
Food Review
So, let’s start with the main course. The ham and turkey were both delicious. They are pretty generous with their serving sizes, too.
All the sides were good, too. We all loved our cornbread muffins and stuffing. The cranberry was pretty good, too.
Half of us ordered mashed potatoes with gravy and half of us didn’t. The mashed potatoes without gravy we found quite dry. They were much better with gravy, so if you are debating whether or not to hold the gravy keep that in mind.
But otherwise, all of the food was really good and the portion sizes were great as well.
Conclusion
The turkey dinner and ham dinner are great choices for a meal at Classic Christmas Cafe. It is also a bit expensive.
But getting so many delicious sides and delicious meat in good proportions did make the cost worth it to my family. So if you are visiting Kings Dominion theme park for Winterfest, we recommend having a meal at this restaurant.
Kings Dominion Vacation Tips
So if you are planning a trip to Kings Dominion for Winterfest, you may be in need of a hotel.
We recommend staying at Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Doswell (Kings Dominion). My family has stayed here multiple times and have great stays each time. It is reasonably priced, has a free breakfast, and has comfortable beds.
But most importantly, it is located right across the street. That just makes it so convenient for visiting Kings Dominion. It is so nice to be so close to your hotel at the end of the day.
