My family loves traveling to Williamsburg, Virginia. There are a lot of things we enjoy doing in Williamsburg. But our favorites are Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens theme park.
So when we look for a hotel, we like to get one that is convenient for both. There are other things we like in a hotel, too. We want it to be accessible with an elevator (unfortunately, not all hotels in Williamsburg are). We also want things like queen beds and a free breakfast. And of course, we want it to be affordable.
We found all of this and then some with Hampton Inn & Suites Williamsburg Historic District. We stayed there over Memorial Day weekend. And we left incredibly happy with our stay.
So today I want to tell you about all the reasons why we loved our stay.
Great Service
I was very impressed with the great service at the hotel. The check-in was a breeze. This was great, especially since we arrived late Friday night.
They had plenty of towels and wash clothes when we got there, which I liked. But during our stay, we needed more. I went to the front desk and they gave us some, no problem. I really appreciated the prompt service.
They also have a great safety feature in that you need your key to get in the building from 11:00 PM until 6:00 AM. I like having safety features like that.
One of my favorite features was that there were handouts at the front of the hotel. It gave directions to top Williamsburg attractions as well as places we might want to vist:
- Busch Gardens
- Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center
- Merchant Square
- Prime Outlet Shopping
- Regal Theaters New Town
- College of William and Mary
- Jamestown/Yorktown/Colonial Parkway
- Food Lion/CVS/Eckerd Pharmacy
They were good directions, too. I used them all weekend. They actually showed us a shortcut to the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center that I was not aware of.
And taking these directions, we were able to get to Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg in under five minutes. Which leads me to my next point.
Location
I am actually not sure if I have stayed at a hotel in Williamsburg that was more convenient to both Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. This hotel is under five minutes to both locations. Most hotels I have stayed at in Williamsburg were about fifteen minutes to each. If you are traveling to Williamsburg and you want to visit Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens (and I suspect you too) this hotel is the perfect choice location-wise.
Room
The room was also great! We had a standard room and not a suite. But it had plenty of room. There were two queen beds in the room, which I much prefer to double beds.
The room also had great amenities like plenty of drawers, a microwave, a refrigerator, etc.
We like to have a refrigerator since we often bring a large cooler so we can save money on drinks. They also have a nice desk area if you need to work.
The bathroom wasn’t small but it wasn’t the largest either. It was a really attractive bathroom, though, with a great picture up.
But one feature I really liked was that the closet was right next to the bathroom. And if you opened up the closet door, it could create privacy from the rest of the room. This was nice if you wanted to have more than one person say changing while the rest of the family was in the room.
I also really liked the pictures in the room. They were very pretty and added to the overall great atmosphere of the guest rooms.
The rooms also had another feature I really like, which is plenty of outlets so I could charge all my devices.
Indoor Pool
So one thing I really liked about this hotel is that they have an indoor pool!
There is so much to do in the area I ended up not using it. But I really loved having the option. They, unfortunately, do not have a hot tub but it is great having an indoor pool. That means if you visit here during the winter to see Colonial Williamsburg at Christmas or Christmas Town at Busch Gardens, you can still go in swimming. Or if you are here during the summer, you can go in swimming without having to worry about sunblock.
Free Breakfast
So as I mentioned earlier, one thing that was appealing to me was the free breakfast. There are a lot of great pancake houses around Williamsburg (Capitol Pancake House may be my favorite). But you really save a lot of money on your trip if you get a free breakfast with your stay.
And that is what you get at Hampton Inn & Suites Williamsburg Historic District. One thing I really like about the free breakfast, too, is that it runs from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Not all free breakfasts run that late, and I like that since I am not an early riser.
There were hot offerings, though. When I was there you could get eggs and sausage. We thought it was nice there were meat options. The eggs we found were particularly good.
Another thing I liked about the free breakfast is that there were multiple waffle makers.
That’s nice because you’re more likely to find a waffle maker open the more you have. It’s also nice if you have multiple family members wanting waffles, so you don’t have to wait forever until all of your breakfasts are ready. I also liked that they had multiple flavor options, like plain or cinammon.
But unfortunately, when we were there, it was Memorial Day weekend and it was really busy. You might be a bit luckier if you do the breakfast earlier than we did (before 9:00 AM) because on Memorial Day, the line was really long.
They had some other options, like bagels, muffins, yogurt, and cereal.
But overall, I would say it’s not the most extensive buffet breakfast I have ever had at a hotel. However, still, it’s a free breakfast. That’s a really great feature to have. And I always found something good to eat each day.
They also have plenty of seating in the breakfast area.
And that is good because as I said, it got quite crowded.
Other Amenities
There is a great fitness center at the hotel next to the indoor pool. They have a lot of equipment, like an exercise bike, treadmill, weights, etc.
They have a shop next to the check-in area in the lobby with snacks and drinks.
I would have preferred a larger selection of drinks, honestly. But the price was pretty good.
They also have a great business center.
It is large and spacious with multiple computers, a printer, and multiple comfortable chairs. It is the perfect place to go if you need to print something off for work or for your vacation, like a boarding pass or attraction ticket.
Hotel Pricing & Attraction Tickets
So you know how I mentioned earlier that one of the reasons my family chose this hotel was because of the pricing? Well, it really is affordable. Especially when you consider all of its features (like the free breakfast and indoor pool) along with its incredible proximity to Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg.
You can get a great price for the hotel here.
As I mentioned before, my family is a big fan of both Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg. If you would like to visit both these attractions, consider getting a Bounce Ticket. It gets you admission to Busch Gardens, Water Country USA water park, and Colonial Williamsburg for seven days. It also gets you free parking, which is one of the best money-saving aspects of it!
