Charlotte is a lovely city with plenty of trees and greenery.  But Uptown Charlotte has its share of secrets and there are hotspots of paranormal activity.

You can learn about Charlotte’s dark side on a 60-minute walking tour.  You’ll visit eight of the city’s most haunted places.  Each stop on the tour will leave you with a newfound appreciation for Charlotte’s haunted history.  Be sure to bring your camera.  You never know what you might capture.

Old Settlers Cemetery

Your professional guide will take you to Charlotte’s first burial ground.  No one knows exactly when Old Settlers Cemetery was started but it is where Charlotte’s earliest settlers were buried.  Graverobbing was a major problem during its first hundred years and perhaps that’s why the cemetery has been the site of so much paranormal activity.  Orbs are frequently seen in pictures taken at the cemetery.

Ri Ra Irish Bar

Uptown’s Ri Ra Irish Bar imported an antique bar from Ireland to add authenticity.  Now drinks aren’t the only spirits you might see at the bar.

McNinth House Restaurant

The McNinth House Restaurant is a gourmet restaurant.  Hear about the ghostly encounters that have been reported by both staff and diners.  Your guide will tell you about the Carolina Theater and the mysterious spirit that everyone calls Fred.

The First Presbyterian Church

The First Presbyterian Church is one of the city’s oldest buildings, dating from 1826.  Chandeliers shake for no reason and light bulbs explode.  A sexton died when a tunnel under the church collapsed, trapping him under the church forever.  Could that be the source of the paranormal happenings?

The Dunhill Hotel

The Dunhill Hotel is a hotbed of paranormal activity.  This 10 story high rise was built in 1929 and was named the Mayflower Manor Hotel & Apartments.  Being one of the tallest buildings in Charlotte, many suicidal businessmen took their lives by leaping from the upper floors.  During renovations in 1988, construction workers discovered a human skull and bones in the basement.  The mystery of who they belonged to and how they got there has never been solved.

Hotel guests have reported seeing a man falling from an upper floor, but when they went down to report it, there was nothing on the sidewalk.  Others have reported lights and appliances turning on and off by themselves.  There was also a report of a spectral finger tapping on the nightstand.

So join them on Charlotte’s dark streets and listen to all the haunted tales.
