The Historic Village of Allaire was once an iron-producing factory town. Founded in 1822, the Howell Iron Works was the heart of the village. It was a self sufficient community containing a blacksmith shop, a carpentry and pattern making shop, a post office, a bakery, a blast furnace, a boarding house, mills to finish iron products, a school, a church, a general store and workers’ homes.

Today it is one of New Jersey’s premiere living history museums. Allaire has interactive exhibits and visitors can experience history directly through hands on activities.
