The German-American von Steuben Parade will have its 68th anniversary on September 20, 2025.  The parade begins at noon and will last three hours.  It celebrates German heritage and culture and is now the largest event of its kind in the United States.  Participants come together to honor their German, Austrian and Swiss-American culture and traditions.  It also applauds the achievements of the many German immigrants in this country.

The parade will go up Fifth Avenue to 86th Street.  You can expect to see marching bands, colorful regional costumes, elaborately decorated floats, dancers, clubs, civic groups and more.

The parade was named after General Friedrich Wilheim von Steuben from Prussia.  He served with George Washington in the American Revolutionary War and has been one of the most influential German-Americans.  His contribution to our fight for independence and his training of the American troops helped our country gain its independence.

The parade will be led by cadets representing the German Language Club of the Military Academy of West Point, which was founded by General von Steuben.  Miss German-America and her court are in the parade and serve as young cultural ambassadors to events throughout the year.  Clubs and organizations from across the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Canada will also be marching in the parade.

Participants will be wearing traditional German attire.  Along the parade route, you will see many American and German flags.  This year’s Grand Marshalls will be Till Knorn, German Consul General in New York and Gerhard Rossbach, entrepreneur.

The parade will be followed by Oktoberfest NYC at SummerStage, Ramsey Playfield in Central Park.

The Oktoberfest tradition began in Bavaria over 200 years ago.  It lives on today and is the world’s largest Volksfest (people’s festival), held annually in Munich, Bavaria, and around the world.

Enjoy music, dancing, authentic German beer and food, friendship and more.  There will be live entertainment, including

  • The Heimatklange
  • The Lenny Coyne National Masskrugstemmen
  • Die Musikkapelle Berg
  • Die Steinacher Musikanten

and more.  If you want to attend and look the part, check this out.
