When I think of Williamsburg, Virginia, I of course think of both Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens theme parks.  But I also think of their delicious pancake houses!  And one of these great pancake houses is the appropriately named Colonial Pancake House.

I tried Colonial Pancake House during my last visit to Williamsburg.  I absolutely loved the location because I was staying at the Rodeway Inn (you can read my review of the hotel here).  Colonial Pancakes is located right next door to Rodeway Inn.  If you are staying there, you can actually just walk right over.  And if you’re not, you’ll like the location if you’re visiting Colonial Williamsburg.  It’s about a four-minute drive from the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center, so depending on where you’re staying it could be right on the way!

Colonial Pancake House is open from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  We arrived a little after 1:00 PM and we didn’t have too much of a wait.  But if you visit, make sure you don’t come too late.  When I was there someone came in after 1:45 PM and they were told that even though it closes at 2:00 PM, they stop seating customers at 1:45 PM.  They will do a to-go order, but you won’t be able to sit down and eat there.

Decor & Atmosphere

One of the things I liked about this restaurant was the decor.  I loved the roosters.  I love the fireplace in the middle of the restaraunt.  And I love the colors used, especially the blue.

Speaking of the family atmosphere, they give out kids’ menus with crayons to children which I like.  Just another thing that made it a great atmosphere for families with kids.

Food Review

But all of this would mean nothing if the food wasn’t good, right?  Well, luckily, that is not a problem here!

They have a really extensive menu of both breakfast and lunch items.  This is great if you have people in your family who don’t like breakfast foods as much.

I’ll go over the dishes my family had, starting with the most liked.  And that was the Banana Split Waffle!

My family's favorite menu item at Colonial Pancake House was the Banana Split Waffle

This was delicious!  It was like a waffle and banana split put together.  Which, you know, basically it was since it is a waffle with banans, pecans, & chocolate chips topped with ice Cream, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup.

We also liked the Ham Omelet with Swiss Cheese.

Colonial Pancake House in Williamsburg, Virginia has delicious omelets you can get with Swiss Cheese

There was a lot of ham in it so you didn’t have to look for it like you sometimes have to.  They diced up the ham a lot so it was in smaller pieces, which is how we like it. The Swiss cheese was also evenly distributed throughout the omelet and not, say, just one slice on top.  The omelet was just very well made.

All omelets also came with a biscuit and home-fried potatoes, which I like.

And then finally, what the majority of my family had, which was the Very Berry Pancakes.

I thought the very berry pancakes, seen here with strawberries and blueberries, was a bit dry but better with whipped cream

They were pancakes topped with strawberries and blueberries.

Unfortunately, I found the pancakes a bit dry and one was overcooked.  I also thought there wasn’t enough butter.  The pancakes were, however, better when dipped in whipped cream and with syrup.

So the food made it definitely worth visiting, too.  But I would recommend the banana split waffle or the omelet over the pancakes.
