Adventure awaits on an 8 hour Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods Tour from Denver. Be prepared to have a great time and see spectacular sights you’ll never forget.
Garden of the Gods
The Garden of the Gods Park is located where the Great Plains’ grasslands merge into the Southwest’s pinon-juniper woodlands and meet the mountains forest of Pikes Peak. Sitting at an elevation of 6,400 feet above sea level, the park attracts millions of visitors from around the world each year. The park’s famous red rocks were formed millions of years by the work of geological activity along a natural fault line. The rocks are conglomerates of red, pink and white sandstones and limestone.
You’ll see towering, gravity defying rock formations against the backdrop of the vibrant blue sky and the snow capped Pikes Peak. You’ll have an opportunity to explain and examine formations with names like Kissing Camels, Balanced Rock, Steamboat Rock and Cathedral Spikes.
Pikes Peak
Your next stop will be at the summit of Pikes Peak, aka Sun Mountain by the Utes tribe and aka El Capitan by Spanish explorers. The tallest mountain in the Southern Front range of the Rocky Mountains, it stands at 14,115 feet.
The views from the top of Pikes Peak are stunning! You’ll see Colorado Springs below and the rest of the awe inspiring Rock Mountain range. With the right weather conditions, you can see miles and miles of the untouched natural beauty of Colorado. It is known as America’s Mountain because the vista from the top inspired the lyrics for “America the Beautiful.”
Pikes Peak is home to a large herd of bighorn sheep. You can see prairie falcons and scrub jays. If you’re lucky you may also spot a mountain lion, bear or the snowshoe hare. Be sure to listen for the whisper of the yellow bellied marmot.
You’ll descend from the mountain and go to Manitou Springs. This small resort town was founded in the 1800s to be a health spa. For centuries, people have been coming to Manitou Springs to experience the healing waters of its eight natural mineral springs.
Included in the Tour
