Looking for a way to celebrate the Day of the Dead in Seattle, Washington? Then you need to attend the Catrinas Festival which celebrates Día de Los Muertos.
The festival takes place this year from November 2, 2023, through November 5, 2023. It takes place at the Town Hall, which is located at 1119 8th Avenue in Downtown Seattle, Washington.
Itinerary
Every day of the event, a candlelight procession takes place. There is also a show called Unforgettable that takes place every night at 6:30 p.m. Performances in the show include Ballet Folklorico Fuego Nuevo from San Jose, California and female and male Mariachi Estrella de Mexico from Guadalajara, Jalisco.
Everyone in attendance is encouraged to bring pictures, candles, flowers, and momentos of loved ones. They can place it on the alter inside Club. The alter is decorated with folk art, flowers, and “ofrendas”. You’ll also want to check out the wall of memories.
You can also see traditional altars and original folk art at this event.
There’s a permanent giant altar created by their cultural and art department. There is a permanent altar dedicated to Jewish people who were killed during the holocaust.
The following art comes directly from Mexico:
- “Día de Muertos” handmade art exposition by Sofia Castellanos Art
- “Seagiantskulls”, a handmade and painted exposition of giant skulls created by Hermes Arroyo
- Living statues created by artists Monserrat Diaz and Ramon Solano
- 200 Catrinas that were handmade by Mexican families
There are photo booths with the famous “Mojigangas” Frida and Pepe as well as live Catrinas and Catrines. They have children’s workshops with Memo Plastilina. There are games like Mexican bingo (otherwise known as “Loteria”).
This festival takes place each day from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM. The last activity of the night is at 9:00 PM when you can watch a show called Magic Night.
