Frontier City theme park in Oklahoma City is the biggest amusement park in Oklahoma.  There are so many fun rides and attractions that you and your family would enjoy.  So I am excited to tell you that there is a great coupon available for Frontier City.

This is especially exciting, given that the theme park I am talking about is Frontier City.  Anyone who reads this blog knows I love talking about any theme park, but I have a special place in my heart for those with a really special theme, especially when there is interesting history behind it.

And that is definitely the case with Frontier City.  Let me briefly get into this history.  It first opened in 1958 along Route 66 (which is now Interstate 35).  It started out as Boomtown, a replica of an Oklahoma pioneer town that was originally built for Oklahoma’s semicentennial celebration in 1957 at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.  Admission was free, but you had to pay for the gunfight shows.  Attractions included a haunted farm, a mine train, jails, and, of course, robberies.  During the 1960s and the 1970s, they started adding rides like roller coasters and a log flume ride.

Attractions

Fast forward to today, and it is a full-fledged theme park with attractions like:

  • Thrill rides, like:
    • Wildcat, a classic wooden roller coaster
    • Silver Bullet, a high-speed roller coaster
    • Rolling Thunder (got to love an Oklahoma City roller coaster with thunder in the name, right?), a seven-story looping thrill ride
  • Family rides, like:
    • Great Centennial Ferris Wheel, which gives you great views of the park
    • Grand Carousel, a classic merry-go-round ride
    • Ol’ 89er Express, a three-carriage train ride (another great way to see the park)
    • Frankie’s Mine Train, a milder roller coaster kids can enjoy, too
    • Mystery River Log Flume, a classic log flume ride
  • Kids’ rides, like:
    • Tina’a Tea Cup Twirl, a classic teacup ride
    • Bubba’s Honey Swings, a children’s swing ride
    • Hootie’s Tree House, a kids’ playground area
  • Water park attractions, like:
    • Wild West Water Works, Oklahoma’s largest water structure
  • Live shows, like:
    • Two John’s Saloon Revue
    • The World of Magic
    • Rooftop Showdown
    • Crack Axle Canyon Stunt Show

But as you can see, even if it has now more of a theme park than a pioneer town replica, it still has that good Old Western theme!
