My family loves staying at Disney’s Riviera Resort when we visit the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. One of the reasons we love it is one of its onsite restaurants, Primo Piatto. You may remember us discussing their great lunch and dinner options in our review.
Primo Piatto is a neat restaurant that really embraces the European theming of the Riviera Resort. There are pictures all over the restaurant of Walt Disney himself in Europe.
They play great music fitting the theme, including classic Disney songs played in other languages. It’s such a great experience that my family has taken the Skyliner over to the hotel when we are staying somewhere else just to eat there. I love their Croque Monsieur sandwiches – and especially their Romano and Herbed Fries.
And I can say a lot about how great that dish is, but instead I am going to tell you about the breakfast offerings at Primo Piatto.
How to Order Food
Primo Piatto is a quick-service restaurant. And as is this case with pretty much all Walt Disney World resort quick service restaurants, this means that you can order via mobile order or you can order once you are at the restaurant.
Now, most of the times I prefer mobile order. The main reason is that it saves time, plus I don’t love standing in line waiting. I mean, you’ll do that enough at the parks, right?
But this was actually an exception. After initially ordering my food via the app, by the end of the week, I decided to get in line once I was at the restaurant. The main reason was that when you order it on the app, it comes in boxes as a to-go order. When you order it in person, they’ll bring the food out for you when it’s ready and the food is on plates which I prefer. And I never had a long line to order my food in person.
Now, I should preface this by saying that I was visiting in January (though for a January, it was quite busy). Perhaps during a busier time the line would have been huge. But if you walk down to breakfast and find a long line, you can always grab a table and just do mobile order then.
Of course, that is, if you find a table. One negative about Primo Piatto is that unlike the bigger food courts that you would find at say All-Star Sports Resort or the Art of Animation Resort, there aren’t a lot of tables. But the service here is great and they will keep cleaning the tables so if you wait for a table, you shouldn’t have to wait too long. Especially since you are at Walt Disney World Resort so most families are pretty eager to get to the parks.
Though if you don’t want to deal with that and you are in say a one-bedroom or two-bedroom villa, you could consider ordering your food, picking it up, and taking back to your room so you could eat it there.
Food Review
So all of that is nice but ultimately does not matter if the food isn’t good, right? But that is absolutely not the case here.
First of all, they have a wonderful menu. In my opinion, it’s the best menu for any quick service restaurant at any of the Disney hotels. They have so many different options for breakfast that if you’re only here for a few days, you won’t even get to all the great options for breakfast.
Let me start with a dish that I think really fits the resort, and that is the Croque Madame.
This is a dish that I’ve always wanted to try but hadn’t before. And let me tell, you it’s delicious! It is essentially a ham and Swiss sandwich with a fried egg on top. I really loved the fried egg with it. It also comes with bacon which is great, too.
Another unique breakfast entree is the Cinnamon Crumble ‘French Toast’ Bread Pudding. It’s served with vanilla custard. First of all, you know how I said that the breakfast meals work better when you order it in person rather than doing mobile orders? Well, here is the dish via mobile order.
Which of course is fine – but to me, when you spread the vanilla custard, it’s easier to get on a plate. And look how pretty this looks!
And by the way – it tasted as good as it looked. In fact, just looking at this picture now got the taste back in my mouth, which I really like. And actually, the bacon was not only good but tasted good with the vanilla custard, too!
The Blueberry-Lemon Pancakes are also great.
The mix of lemons and blueberries complemented each other well, and the bacon once again was very good. Also, don’t you just love how the blueberries come together to make a hidden Mickey of sorts?
And finally, there’s a continental breakfast if you want a mix of food. It has traditional breakfast fare like bacon and eggs but also a croissant, fresh fruit, and a choice of overnight oats or yogurt. Here we got overnight oats.
This was fantastic, too.
But what if you don’t get that hungry for breakfast? Or you are saving your appetite for say lunch at Cinderella’s Royal Table or Be Our Guest? Well, they have smaller options, too, like this croissant.
So overall, we highly recommend Primo Piatto for breakfast.
