Come see America’s most haunted city by dark. The best way to explore haunted sites is in the shadows of the night. You can do just that on the Haunted City Cemetery Bus Tour.
This 90 minute tour will be led by a professional local tour guide who will tell you about New Orleans Voodoo history. Voodoo is a blend of Haitian, African and Catholic spiritual beliefs and practices. It became popular with slaves in the 18th century.
The Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau
You’ll learn about the famous Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau. Her healing powers were so legendary, devotees continue to make pilgrimages to her final resting place in St. Louis Cemetery #1. They leave flowers and Voodoo artifacts. It is said if you leave an offering, write xxx on the outside of her tomb, turn around three times, knock on her tomb and yell out your wish, Queen Laveau will help you. After you get your wish, you must return to her tomb and give her another offering.
Paranormal Activity
You’ll visit two of New Orleans’ famous cemeteries. Cemeteries are commonly called “Cities of the Dead” in the Big Easy. Take in the eerie atmosphere. See the above-ground elaborate marble tombs and statues. Like almost everything in New Orleans, these cemeteries are hauntingly beautiful.
Your guide can tell you about the encounters people have had with the restless souls residing in these cemeteries. Paranormal investigators can tell you that contrary to popular belief, cemeteries are not usually hotbeds of paranormal activity. That is not the case with these historic New Orleans cemeteries. Another instance of how unique New Orleans truly is.
All guides are equipped with EMF Meters to help locate any spirits or paranormal activity. EMF meters are handheld devices used to detect fluctuations in electronic fields left behind by paranormal activity. The device will beep with increasing volume depending on the amount of nearby activity.

There will be a stop at a local bar that can be used as a bathroom break. You can also get a snack there or fortify yourself with some liquid courage for the rest of the tour.
Your last stop will be at the Coven House from “American Horror Show.” It is a 20,000 square foot New Orleans landmark from the 1850s called Buckner Mansion. Hear stories of swaying chandeliers, lights turning on and off by themselves and doors opening and closing on their own. It is said to be haunted by the ghost of a former slave and possibly others.
Your tour will begin in the French Quarter and you’ll travel through other historic districts. Your guide will tell you about the landmarks and haunted sites you’re seeing. Hear stories of murders, pirates, Voodoo, suicides, lost loves, vampires, yellow fever victims, rituals, betrayals and more and the frightening spirits left behind by these events.
