Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the newest attraction at Walt Disney World, opens later this month. This Princess & The Frog ride replaces Splash Mountain, the log flume ride previously in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. And today, we’ll go over everything you need to know about the new Tiana ride!

When does Tiana’s Bayou Adventure open?

June 28, 2024 is the opening day for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Is Tiana’s Bayou Adventure a water ride?

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a log flume ride, just like Splash Mountain. And that means you will most likely get wet!

Given how hot Orlando, Florida can be, this might feel very refreshing. But if you hate getting wet, you might want to wear some rain gear (or just skip the ride altogether). And as for rain gear, we recommend getting this family pack of ponchos in different colors – this is cheaper than buying ponchos in the parks.

Is Tiana’s Bayou Adventure scary?

It depends on what you find scary. If big drops or heights frighten you, then you might want to pass on this ride. That’s because it includes a 50-foot drop!

What is the storyline of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

The plot is set a year after The Princess and The Frog movie, during Carnival season. Tiana has purchased a salt dome and started Tiana’s Foods, an employee-owned food cooperative, on top of it. She’s hosting a celebration for all of New Orleans; but because of a mix-up, she’s in need of a band. The ride features Tiana, Louis and the guests traveling to the bayou in search of musical critters.

What characters are featured in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

You’ll hear from Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley), Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos) and Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis).

Are there any fast passes or Lightning Lane options for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be included in the Disney Genie Plus service. (We go over what Disney Genie+ is here.) This means that if you purchase Disney Genie Plus, you can book a Lightning Lane reservation for the ride.

How to save big on your dream Disney vacation

If you’d like to do this, I recommend that you make getting a Lightning Lane for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure a priority, at least in late June and July. There’s a good chance that a lot of people will want to try the ride for the first time, and there are only so many Lightning Lane reservations available each day.

You can purchase Genie Plus for the day starting at midnight (12:00 AM). And starting at 7:00 AM, you can start booking Lightning Lane times for the day. I’d purchase Genie Plus sometime between 12:00 AM and 7:00 AM, and then at 7:00 AM I’d start trying to book a Lightning Lane reservation for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure for later that day. (You can check out more Genie Plus tips here.)

If that sounds too stressful (or you’re not an early riser) and you want to get a Genie Plus reservation for the Tiana ride, then I’d just keep checking throughout the day. More times may open up if other guests cancel their reservations. Plus, it might not sell out immediately; we’ll know more once the ride opens June 28.

And when the ride does open, it will also use a virtual queue. On the My Disney Experience app, you’ll have two times a day when you can request to join the queue: 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM. You can learn more about Disney World virtual queues here.

Can’t I just wait in line for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

Disney World has announced that there will be NO standby queue when the attraction opens or during the initial opening days. So, no, unfortunately, you cannot just get in line to ride the attraction.

However, they expect to add a standby queue soon after it opens. Disney has kept it vague, but we’ll keep you posted when they announce specific dates.

Will they take my picture during the ride?

Yes! Disney PhotoPass Service will take a special photo of guests on the ride. And if you get the Memory Maker photo service, you can download this photo plus all the other PhotoPass pictures taken during your trip.

Where is the Tiana ride located within Magic Kingdom?

Since Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is the Splash Mountain replacement, it’s located in Frontierland, just like Splash Mountain was. It’s near the Walt Disney World Railroad station and Golden Oak Outpost.

You can get a map at the front of the park, pull up a map on the My Disney Experience app, or ask a cast member (Disney employee) if you’re having trouble finding it. Or you can basically head west (no pun intended), as Frontierland is the most western area of the park (and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is to the west of most of Frontierland’s attractions).

Any special treats in honor of the Princess Tiana ride?

Yes! You can enjoy delicious specialty food offerings at Magic Kingdom (and beyond!) to celebrate both the new Disney Tiana ride as well as New Orleans.
