Imagine getting up at 6:00 AM to make sure you got a coveted dining reservation at a brand new Walt Disney World restaurant, only to discover that the website is down. And stays down. For hours. And when it comes back, no reservations are available!
This is exactly what happened today to those of us who wanted to book a reservation for The Beak and Barrel. This pirate-themed tavern is located in Adventureland in Magic Kingdom. And it’s scheduled to open on August 29. Disney World had previously announced that you could make reservations starting August 14.
Usually, you can start making your advanced dining reservations for the day around 6:00 AM EST. But today, this wasn’t the case. Essentially, the dining reservation system appeared to crash. This made it impossible to book a lunch or dinner slot at The Beak and Barrel – and often at any other Disney World restaurant, either.
Of course, you never know exactly how long one of those system outages can last. And if you got up at 6:00 AM (or earlier, depending on where you live) for these reservations, you’re pretty invested in it. This can lead to a lot of refreshing the website or the app (or worrying if you aren’t able to keep checking repeatedly).
Plus, when the system would seem to come back up, it appeared to show that no reservations were available, almost as if they had somehow all been booked. And that’s a whole other level of stress and worrying (even though it made no sense as the system had been down!).
Eventually, then Disney explained in the error message they added to the app, as you can see in red:

At least that meant those of us wanting a reservation could finally stop obsessively checking!
