As someone who spent her tween and teen years in Charlotte, North Carolina, I know what a big deal Scarowinds is. Carowinds’ spooky Halloween event has been thrilling guests for many years. They always have exciting haunted mazes and scare zones throughout the park. And it is scary.
Like, too scary for me. But really thrilling if you love to be scared. The actors are really good at jumping out and scaring you at the scare zones.
It really is a top-notch production. You can see for yourself in our video from a few years ago:
So I bet you are wondering about these scare zones and haunted mazes. So let me tell you about them and other fun things you can expect at Scarowinds. And then I will tell you how you can save money on your ticket!
Scare Zones
I referenced scare zones earlier but if you’re not familiar with it, it’s a section of the park where when you walk through it, actors dressed as scary creatures and killers will jump out and scare you. You can wear a No-Boo Necklace if you don’t want them jumping out, though my experience has been the actors don’t always notice you’re wearing it so just be aware they may still jump out at you. So you may want to try as hard as possible to avoid these areas if you don’t like interacting with the actors.
But if you do, you are in for a treat. Because SCarowinds has a great list of outdoor scare zones this year.
Harvest FEAR
There’s a fall festival going on over in Crossroads. Except it’s not like a fall festival you visited as a kid. No, this one definitely has a spooky twist…
Ripper Alley
The Nighthawk Pathway has been transformed to a London setting for this scare zone. You’ll find terrifying ghosts here who love targeting ordinary humans.
The Harlequin Club
The Harlequin Club has taken over the Country Fair, populating the once tranquil area with demented circus performers and spooky sideshow acts.
Blue Ridge Roadkillers
Keep an eye out for a group of maniacs carrying chainsaws over in Blue Ridge Junction. Because, well, the danger there should be self-explanatory.
The Hollow
When you think of pumpkins, you might get happy feelings of fall decorations and pumpkin pie or Pumpkin Spice Lattes. But you may get a different image in your head after visiting the Hollow scare zone over in Carousel Park. These pumpkins are fed up with being carved into every year. And now this year, they want to carve into you!
Haunted Mazes
Scarowinds also has a number of haunted mazes.
Depths of Darkness
You’ll venture through a pitch-black maze at Depths of Darkness. The walls will feel like they’re closing in on you. Can you make your way out?
You can find this maze near Harmony Hall.
Silver Scream Studios: Condemned
At Silver Scream Studios: Condemned, you’ll be touring an old building that was rumored to be the sight where failed horror director Von Hellsburg turned his set into a horrible nightmare.
Have you heard the rumors about Von Hellburg? He’s that failed horror director who made his sets into quite the living nightmare. Years have passed since all those lives were lost. The building where he did his damage was abandoned. But now, you can tour the studio. Can you still hear the cries of his victims? Can you make your way out alive?
You’ll find this haunted maze over in Carowinds’ Thrill Zone.
Slaughter House: The Final Cut
Head to Carolina Boardwalk to get some meat from a slaughterhouse. But while you are there, you might notice the bloody walls. Or the distant screams. At any rate, you’ll soon find yourself trying to get out before you become the new secret ingredient.
Tooth Fairy
When I was a kid, I used to visit Discovery Place here in Charlotte. I loved seeing their Tooth Fairy. She was so pretty and I loved her dress.
But the Tooth Fairy at the Nighthawk Pathway in Scarowinds? Well, that lady is much different. She likes to collect human teeth and body parts. And now you get to enter her terrifying clinic.
Entertainment
So you know how I mentioned that SCarowinds has things other than haunted houses and scare zones?
Well, the new feature of SCarowinds that is my favorite is the nighttime parade! SCarowinds’ Procession of Nightmares parade is a great assortment of floats set to spooky music. In addition to floats, there are creatures roaming around. It’s really neat having a parade for Halloween.
There are also five other live shows and performers:
- Procession of Nightmares
- Conjure The Night
- Halloween Hootenanny
- Raging Inferno
- The Mane Stage
Food & Drinks
Carowinds is also brewing up specialty food and drinks during the event.
Rides
Have you ever ridden a Carowinds ride at night? It gives the whole experience a different feel. And select rides at Carowinds will be open during SCarowinds!
