Oberstdorf, Germany: A Great Travel Destination

If you are looking for that perfect travel destination then look no further than Oberstdorf, Germany’s southernmost village.  It is a charming, romantic village in the heart of the Allgäu Alps.

What to Do

Its cable car gives you amazing views of Bavaria.  The Oberstdorf Nebelhorn is famous for its amazing views of 400 mountain summits.  At the top of the Nebelhorn is a restaurant that gives you a 270-degree panorama.

Oberstdorf is famous for its hiking trails.  If you love adventure travel and great hiking, you will love Oberstdorf.  But Oberstdorf is great for hikers of all skills and ages.  The Burmiwasser adventure trail on the Kanzelwand is particularly great for families with kids.  Söllereckbahn is also great for families.

If you’re visiting in the summer, obviously hiking is a fun activity.  But you can also enjoy mountain biking, kayaking, paragliding, canoeing, pony riding, golfing, and white water rafting.  There’s even an Allgäu Coaster on the Söllereck!

And Oberstdorf is great in the winter, too.  You can enjoy great skiing and snowboarding here.  Cross-country skiing is also popular here.  You can also enjoy tobogganing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, snow biking, tubing, airboarding, etc.  You can see beautiful igloos at the Iglu Lodge.  Oberstdorf also has ski jump hills.  There is also an ice sports centre for ice skating, ice stock bowling, ice stock shooting, and curling

In addition to great activities, Oberstdorf is also famous for its unspoilt landscapes and pure air.  The air is so pure that Oberstdorf was named a 2015 allergy-friendly municipality.  As someone with a lot of allergies, this definitely a plus for me!

You can also learn a lot about the culture and customs of the area during one of Oberstdorf’s festivals.

And you can see the “big five” animals of the Alpines here, too.  And by that, I mean alpine chamois, alpine ibex, eagles, deer, and marmots.
