Activities

Located at the mouth of the Portage River on Lake Erie, Port Clinton is known as the “Walleye Capital of the World.”  Situated between Cleveland and Toledo, it is a great central location for vacationers.  Port Clinton is also known as the center for sailing and sport fishing as well as the gateway to the beautiful islands in Lake Erie.  It is home to the Jet Express, the passenger-only ferry service to South Bass, Put-In-Bay and Kelleys Island.

Port Clinton’s docks are full of sails, fishing boats, and yachts.  In the summer, wave boarding, boating, jet skiing, water tubingkayaking and more are enjoyed here.

So many things to do in Port Clinton!  Local attractions include the Liberty Aviation Museum and the Port Clinton Lighthouse.

Port Clinton has a one of a kind New Year’s Eve celebration that starts in the late afternoon.  There are activities for children, music, and street vendors.  Guests can enjoy exotic treats like Walleye Cinnamon Chips and Walleye White Wine.  The Walleye Madness at Midnight includes fireworks and the descent of a 20 foot 600-pound fiberglass walleye.

Catawba Island State Park is a small but beautiful park in Port Clinton.  It features a boat launch, public fishing pier and a rocky beach area.  Watch spectacular sunsets over the water.  It is a serene, peaceful place to enjoy nature.  Ice skating and ice fishing are popular here in the winter months.

Seven miles from Port Clinton is East Harbor State Park.  On the shores of Lake Erie, it is ideal for outdoor recreation.  People go there to swim, fish, go boating and picnicking.  Nature enthusiasts enjoy seeing the multitude of shorebirds, waterfowl and native wildlife that can be found in the wetlands of the park.

The East Harbor campground is the largest in the Ohio State Park System.  There are 205 nonelectric sites and 365 electric sites.  The campground features showers, restrooms and a camp store.  Camping with pets is permitted on designated sites.
