Today, I want to talk about ways to beat the heat when you visit Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida. I think this is a very important topic right now, because we are headed into the summer. And we all know how hot Florida summers can be. We also know that you spend a lot of the day outdoors when you visit a theme park like Islands of Adventure. And you don’t want to get overheated and have that ruin your day.
Luckily, Islands of Adventure gives guests a number of ways to cool off during the day. Let’s go over some of these ways.
But before we begin, let me tell you that if you have not bought your ticket yet for Islands of Adventure this summer, check out these ways to save money on Universal Orlando tickets.
But back to the ways to cool off this summer at Universal Islands of Adventure!
8 Ways to Beat the Heat at Universal Islands of Adventure
- Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges: Ever been in the hot sun and wished you could get wet to break the heat? Here’s your best chance of doing it! This whitewater rafting ride gets guests really wet, so if that’s your goal, here’s the place to do it!
- Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls: This ride is your second best chance of getting wet. This flume ride features a number of drops, all culminating in a 75-foot drop that is bound to get you wet.
- Jurassic Park River Adventure: Not to be outdone, Jurassic Park River Adventure also features its own huge drop, and in this case, it is an 85-foot drop. So there is another chance to get wet!
- Toon Lagoon Splash Pods: If you have kids who are too short to ride the previous attractions mentioned, then head to either entrance of Islands of Adventure’s Toon Lagoon section. Your kids can run through the spraying water and cool off that way – as well as burn off some of that extra energy we wish we had as adults!
- Jurassic Park Discovery Center: Jurassic Park Discovery Center is a fun, interactive exhibit that kids and adults can enjoy (especially if you love the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies, or dinosaurs in general). There are fun activities like seeing what your DNA fused with a dinosaur would look like or seeing a baby velociraptor get born. You can spend awhile here and have fun. And the best part about visiting here in the summer? It is all indoors!
- Hog’s Head Pub: Located at the back of Three Broomsticks restaurant in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s Hogsmeade section of IOA is a pub serving cool drinks that could help you cool off. They have a great selection of imported beers, spirits, and wines. Even if you have kids who cannot drink yet or you do not consume alcohol yourself, you can enjoy the non-alcoholic butterbeer or pumpkin juice!
- Mythos Restaurant: There’s nothing like sitting down and getting waited on after a long day at the theme park. So, assuming you haven’t completely blown through your travel budget yet, consider splurging with a meal at Mythos Restaurant. It is an award-winning restaurant serving Mediterranean, Asian, and American cuisine. Just make sure you ask to be seated indoors when you make a reservation!
- Leave During the Afternoon: The afternoon is the hottest part of the day. So you could consider visiting in the morning, leaving during the afternoon, and then coming back at night. Of course, this works best if you are staying onsite so you can use Universal’s convenient transportation. During the afternoon, you could swim in your hotel’s pool to help you cool off – or take a well-earned nap! You can find out how to save money on Universal hotels here.

If you want to read further on Islands of Adventure, I recommend the Unofficial Guide to Universal Orlando. I am a big fan of these unofficial guides. I started reading the Unofficial Guide to Disney World as a kid, and throught the year, I keep buying newer and newer editions. It is a great read, and I actually consulted my latest Universal Orlando book to ensure I had accurate information for this blog entry. So I definitely recommend it!
