When I was a kid and I first visited Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, I remember the tagline “Ride the Movies!”. One of the exciting things to me for visiting the theme park was how you could feel like you have just stepped in the movies. And that is what you can get now at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
One of those amazing experiences is visiting the Leaky Cauldron at Universal Studios. My family just recently visited there for breakfast. So we wanted to tell you about our whole experience.
We were staying at Universal’s Endless Summer Resort – Dockside Inn (you can read our review for this hotel here). The day before, we went to the Universal Vacation Planning Center.
You can find it is in the lobby. They have these at all the Universal Orlando resorts (like Surfside Inn, Cabana Bay, Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific, Sapphire Falls, Aventura, and Hard Rock Hotel).
We went ahead and bought our breakfast passes for the next day. You don’t have to do that, but I feel like it saves time. And it reserves your spot so you don’t have to worry the next day about the restaurant getting full.
We headed to the desk in the afternoon and there wasn’t a long line. You can also buy your passes the day of, but if you do you might want to try to go there early. Because the later you buy your ticket, the line at the Universal Vacation Planning Center is usually longer, unless you get lucky and hit it right.
We were told when we bought them just to make sure we showed up before 10:30 AM. So the first thing we did when we go into Universal Studios Florida theme park was head straight for Diagon Alley! Luckily, it is at the front of Diagon Alley. You’ll notice the witch above the door.
Now, the Leaky Cauldron is not a restaurant where you sit down and place an order with a server. How it works is that you get in line. Once you get through the line, you go to walk up to where you order your food.
There are signs up with what food and drinks you can order. Though please note that the signs up aren’t completely accurate. Butterbeer, for instance, is not on the sign, but it is available to order.
I loved how the employees stayed in character while we ordered our food. When I asked if they had Coke I was told the Ministry wouldn’t let us have muggle products, which I thought was a neat touch.
Once you ordered your food, an employee took what looked like a candle with a number with you and placed you at a table.
I thought the candle was yet another really neat touch. Then when your food was ready, it was brought to your table.
Decor & Atmosphere
So I have already mentioned different neat small touches throughout the restaurant. But that is true throughout the restaurant. If you’ve ever watched the Harry Potter movies, you’ll notice immediately just what a wonderful job they did recreating this restaurant. It truly feels, as I said before, like you have stepped into the movies.
Everything is so perfect, from the design to the architecture to the pictures, to everything. My favorite feature is the Sirius Black “Have You Seen This Wizard?” wanted poster.
Breakfast Food Review
But even with the great experience, I am not sure if the experience would be worth it without great food, right? But luckily, that is not the problem here!
Most of my family got the Pancake Breakfast.
The Pancake Breakfast comes with pancakes (of course!), bacon, sausage, and a croissant.
The pancakes were absolutely delicious. They were some of the best pancakes I have ever had, honestly, and that’s one of my favorite foods. They were way better than the pancakes we had at Dockside Inn.
The other breakfast meal ordered at my table was the American Breakfast. It comes with a butter croissant, fresh scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and bacon.
This meal was also delicious.
But my favorite part of the meal was the butterbeer!
The first time I read about butterbeer in the books, I was curious about what it was. And when I heard they served it at Universal Orlando, I definitely wanted to try it. I was so glad I did, because it was delicious! I thought it was delicious and sweet, but not too sweet because even my mom liked it and she doesn’t like sweet foods.
Conclusion
My family loved our breakfast at the Leaky Cauldron! It was delicious breakfast food for a fairly reasonable price, given the amazing setting of the restaurant. And the setting was, of course, the best part. They do an amazing job recreating the Leaky Cauldron from the movies.
Well, maybe that’s not the best part. Maybe it’s the butterbeer!
Universal Orlando Tickets
Now, in order to go to Leaky Cauldron, you are going to need park tickets. Leaky Cauldron is, after all, located at Diagon Alley at Universal Studios theme park.
So you will need tickets for at least one park. But you are probably going to want to buy a ticket that gets you into more than one park if you want to ride the Hogwarts Express, which takes you to Islands of Adventure.
If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, then click here. You’ll be able to buy your Universal Orlando theme park tickets at a discounted price!
