The last couple of years I have made a point to visit Colonial Williamsburg at Christmas Time, and I think you should, too, because Colonial Williamsburg has special decorations & events going you can’t get during the rest of year. I love visiting all of Colonial Williamsburg, and especially Sparkleland on the Square at Merchant’s Square.
By the way, you can get discounted tickets for Colonial Williamsburg through Tripster and if you want to visit Colonial Williamsburg & Christmas Town at Busch Gardens during your visit (which I highly recommend – I listed 10 reasons why here), you should consider buying a Christmas Bounce Ticket to save money.
Are you still not sure you want to visit Colonial Williamsburg during the holiday season? Then let these eight reasons help make up your mind!
1. Christmas Decorations
There are beautiful holiday decorations through Colonial Williamsburg and, in true Colonial Williamsburg, they fit the era. They are also nice touches that do not overwhelm the area; the charm of Colonial Williamsburg is still there and you can enjoy the exhibits the way you normally would, it is just very pretty to see wreaths here and there as well as other decorations.
2. Williamsburg Christmas Market
Did you know that Williamsburg has its very own European-Style Christmas Market? It takes place on weekends (Thursday through Sunday) before Christmas Eve. There will be 40 chalets with over 60 local, regional & national vendors. New vendors will pop up each week. Admission is even free! You can find it over on Court Street next to Bicentennial Park and behind the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg.
3. Liberty Ice Pavillion
Enjoy an iconic holiday season by ice skating at Liberty Ice Pavillion!
4. Photos with Santa
Get photos with Santa in a beautiful gingerbread house setting.
5. Live Holiday Music at Merchant Square
You can enjoy Fife & Drum performances, strolling musicians & Carolers at Merchant Square
6. Storytellers
Kids can enjoy storytellers (in costume!) perform classic Christmas stories
7. Holiday DIY Workshops
You can participate in holiday workshops & demonstrations (such as wine & design wreath workshops) at Merchant Square.
8. Hot Cocoa & Sweet Treats
You can enjoy gourmet hot cocoa & sweet treats at Merchant’s Square.
