A few weeks ago, my family had a very nice vacation in Myrtle Beach.  One of the days of our vacation we topped it off at a dinner we had never been to before.  This restaurant was Loco Gecko Beach Shak.  We left the restaurant happy, having had a wonderful experience.  So naturally, we want to tell you all about it.

First of all, let me straight away tell you the biggest negative for this restaurant, and that is the price.  It’s not cheap.  If you are looking for a cheap meal in Myrtle Beach, this is not it.  You might want to check out where to find cheap food in Myrtle Beach here.

But, it’s understandable why it costs as much as it does (aside from the fact that all food at restaurants is so expensive these days).  Let me tell you about some of those reasons.

First of all, when you list the positives of this restaurant, you have to start and end with location.  The location on South Ocean Boulevard is great.

It was very convenient for my family because we were staying at Sea Crest Oceanfront Resort.  We just literally walked next door and we were at the restaurant.  It’s even more convenient if you are staying at Captain’s Quarter Resort, because Loco Gecko is located inside this hotel.  It is also a short walk from lots of other hotels.

But the location is just not great because it is close to a lot of hotels.  The main reason is, you are steps away from the beach.  You can breathe in the ocean air.

Readers of this blog know that I am a big fan of restaurants where you can see the ocean while you eat, such as Sliders Seaside Grill in Amelia Island, Florida.

Now, the location at Loco Gecko is not such that you can see the waves or the sand.  But if you eat on their deck, you can see the Atlantic Ocean.  And it is a beautiful sight.

Though if you decide to eat inside, it has really wonderful, fun decor.

The decor helped add to the overall laid-back atmosphere of the restaurant.  While sometimes I enjoy dressing up for a meal, it can be especially nice when you’re on a beach vacation to slip on some flip-flops and head to dinner.  It really added to my vacation.

Another great thing about the atmosphere is that is very family-friendly, even though they serve a lot of alcoholic drinks, like the beer and wine my family ordered.

Also, for those looking for a non-alcoholic refreshing drink, the water was surprisingly good for the beach.  They have Pepsi products, too, like Mountain Dew.

Also, notice here the fun tables.  This also adds to the fun atmosphere and experience.

The food here is also excellent, which helps justify the cost of the restaurant.

In addition to being good, they also give you good sizes for portions.  If I wasn’t on the last day of a vacation with no cooler, I would have gotten a take-home box and made another meal out of it.

The dish I got, by the way, was the Da-Bomb Basket.

Loco Gecko Beach Shak in Myrtle Beach has a delicious shrimp basket called Da-Bomb Basket

This consists of 10 golden-fried shrimp.  it comes with French Fries, coleslaw, cocktail sauce, and a lemon.  The shrimp was really good.  I always love getting seafood when I go to the beach because it is so fresh, and this did not disappoint.

But if you are looking for some non-seafood dishes, you’ll be happy to know their Classic Cheesburger is really good, too.

Loco Gecko Myrtle Beach has great sandwiches and burgers, like the classic cheeseburger pictured here.

It’s an eight-ounce patty with tomato, lettuce, and onions.

They also have a really good sandwich, the Beach Love And Tasty BLAT.

The BLAT stands for Bacon, Lettice, Avocado, and Tomato.  There’s also mayo with the BLAT on Texas toasted white bread.  This is a sandwich that really backs up my earlier statement that they give you good size portions.  First of all, they use three pieces of bread rather than two.  The portion sizes are good so that you don’t have to hunt for the avocado.

The best parts of the sandwich were the delicious bacon & the yummy Texas toast. Mayo was good & we liked that it didn’t overpower the rest of the sandwich.

The Fries were mostly great but then a few were too seasoned for my tastes & left my mouth hot (in an uncomfortable way).  But otherwise, this was a great entree.

Loco Gecko Beach Shak is a great choice for a delicious, relaxing meal while you enjoy oceanfront views.  They have great alcoholic beverages, too, but in a family-friendly atmosphere.  It is close to lots of hotels on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

The only negative is the cost.  But if you want to afford this restaurant by saving money on the rest of your vacation, then check out our Myrtle Beach Travel Planning Money Saving Tips.
