Hollywood Post 43 is part of the American Legion, the nation’s largest wartime veterans organization. It’s also the coolest private club in Hollywood. Post 43 is a Hollywood institution, founded in 1919 by World War I veterans working in the motion picture industry. It’s been a Hollywood landmark since 1929. It is the “longest continuously operating speakeasy in Hollywood.”

Post 43 features the famous Art Deco Bar, a state of the art film and digital cinema theater and the Cabaret Room banquet hall with a bar, stage and dance floor. It’s a three story “Moroccan Egyptian Art Deco Revival” building and was designated a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument in 1989.

Visit Hollywood Post 43 on March 5, 2023, and you can enjoy a historic band in a historic building. The Big Band Alumni was formed in 1999 by members of the original Big Bands, including Glenn Miller,, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Woody Herman, Les Brown and Count Basie. Over time, they’ve played at the Ronald Reagan Library, The Academy Awards Governors Ball and have opened for Tony Bennett.

The Big Band Alumni will be joined by vocalists Bill A. Jones and Nancy Osborne. You will see and hear a unique showcase of Big Band Swing, Jazz and Classical Vocal Pop that is reminiscent of famous Los Angeles night clubs, like Ciro’s, The Coconut Grove and The Mocambo. Hear the great standards made famous by Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peggy Lee and more. Enjoy the big band sound as Post 43 is transformed into Club 43.

These shows have become a magnet for local music lovers and swing dancers. It is becoming a “must see” for visitors to Los Angeles. Imagine being in the place where stars like Clark Gable, Micky Rooney, Charlton Heston, Ronald Reagan, Stan Lee, Gene Autry and more brought their dates or their wives. Where they danced, drank and partied. A very special place indeed.
