The Taco & Tequila Festival is coming to downtown Long Beach. This will be happening on July 8, 2023, from 2 pm to 9 pm, Enjoy a day filled with delicious flavors, live music and a festive atmosphere. This will also be a celebration of Jalisco’s 200 years. This year is the 200th anniversary of Jalisco as a free and sovereign state in Mexico.
Jalisco is the birthplace of tequila and has played a prominent role in the agave based spirits industry. Jalisco produces 90% of all agave in Mexico.
Spanish conquistadors led by Hernan Cortes conquered Mexico in the 16th century. They brought with them the art of distillation. The indigenous people in Jalisco began experimenting with distilling fermented agave beverages which led to the early mezcal wines.
In 1758, King Ferdinand VI of Spain gave the first license for tequila to Juan Antonio Cuervo of Jalisco. This led to the world famous Jose Cuervo Distillery which continues to produce tequila.
The festival will tempt your taste buds with a wide variety of tacos. Talented chefs and local restaurants will have tacos that run from traditional favorites to innovative creations.
Be sure to come to the festival hungry. Do you like your tacos savory, spicy, crunchy, tangy or sweet. However you like them, you’re sure to find something you love at the festival.
To complement the tacos a variety of premium tequilas and tequila cocktails will be served by skilled mixologists. While you’re enjoying the culinary delights, you’ll be serenaded by live music from mariachi bands and other Latin performers.
And you can watch Lucha Libre wrestling. They’ve got the real deal. Watch those incredible athletes in their masks fly through the air.
