When I was a child, I got a “Night Before Christmas Book” from my aunt and uncle for Christmas. And it wasn’t just any book, it was a really cool pop-up book with beautiful and colorful illustrations of the classic play. Then when I was in the second grade, we studied Clement Clarke Moore’s famous and beloved holiday poem, “A Visit from Saint Nicolas”. To this day I can recite the whole poem (well, mostly, anyway).
So obviously I am familiar with the poem. But it’s neat to see the poem reimagined and performed in a whole new way. And that is exactly what you get with Cirque du Soleil’s Christmas show, ‘Twas the Night Before!
‘Twas the Night Before… by Cirque du Soleil was actually Cirque du Soleil’s very first holiday production. And it is a good one. It is inspired by the original poem and centers around a young girl rediscovering the spirit of the holiday season. I think it’s a message we can all benefit from hearing this holiday season. Sometimes we get so caught up in holiday travel plans or Christmas shopping that we forget the true meaning of the holiday season.
And since this is a Cirque du Soleil show, there are certain things you can expect – and will get. There will of course be very talented and flexible performers who will be performing acrobatic tricks that can make your jaw drop. And they have a great soundtrack. This soundtrack features reimagined Christmas and holiday music.
