Visiting Disney World in the summer?  Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a great choice for your hotel, and we’ll tell you the reasons why.

My family loves this onsite Disney World hotel, so it’s not a surprise we recommend it.  It’s the first Disney hotel I stayed in when I was one years old.  You can see how beautiful Polynesian was back then in the home video my dad took I recently digitized.

Perhaps it’s because it was the first Disney hotel I’ve ever stayed in.  Or maybe because it’s the freaking Polynesian Resort.  But I love this hotel anytime of the year, really.  For example, we talked about how much we loved Polynesian at Christmas here.

But today I want to talk about how much I love the Polynesian Resort in the summer!   Here are some reasons why Polynesian is a great resort to stay in for a summer Disney World vacation.

Polynesian’s Pool

My family has loved that pool ever since my father took my sister there while I (and my mother) napped.  I still love getting in that pool as an adult.  It’s a wonderful pool.  And sometimes the weather is such that you can go in the pool year-round.

But let me tell you as someone who has stayed in Polynesian in January multiple times.  One time I really wanted to go in the pool.  But I really could only use the hot tub.  And everyone else at the pool knew this and the hot tub was crowded.

But you won’t have to worry about it being too cold to go swimming the summer.  You can definitely enjoy the pool.  Not only that, but the pool will be a great way too cool off in the hot sun.

How to save big on your dream Disney vacation

Dole Whip

And speaking of cooling off, I think Disney’s Polynesian Resort has the best sweet treat that helps you stay cool.  And that is Dole Whip.  You can get it at Pineapple Lanai.

Here is Dole Whip I got at Pineapple Lanai on a past visit.

I love how not only is it delicious and cools you off, but it also really fits the theming of the hotel.  That to me is an A+ dessert…especially in the summer when you need to cool down!

Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto

Want a more adult way to cool off after a hot day?  Then head to the indoor Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, a tropical tiki bar with unique drinks and island vibes.

Other Bars

There are other bars at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.  There’s Barefoot Pool Bar, which not only serves alcoholic drinks but smoothies as well (a great way to cool off in the summer).  There’s also the Oasis Bar & Grill and Wailulu Bar & Grill, which you’ll find at Polynesian’s newest building, the Island Tower.

Transportation to Magic Kingdom

I love all the Disney parks, but Magic Kingdom is my favorite.  And Polynesian has wonderful transportation to Magic Kingdom during the summer.  You can use the monorail or boat to get to Magic Kingdom.

Contemporary, Polynesian and the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at Walt Disney World in Orlando all have monorail access to the Magic Kingdom

boat transportation at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

Since the boat is on the water, this can help cool you off, and the monorail is indoors with air conditioning.

But perhaps the best part of this transportation during the summer is that it drops you right off near the entrance of Disney World.  If you take a bus to Magic Kingdom, the walk to the Magic Kingdom entrance is long and hot.  But you avoid that if you stay at Magic Kingdom and take the monorail or boat.

Fireworks from the Pool

Even at night, Disney World can get hot.  But did you know you could see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the pool?

You can watch Magic Kingdom fireworks from the pool at the Polynesian Village Resort

This is a cool – and fun way – to watch the fireworks.  Please note, however, it can get crowded there during the fireworks.

Battling the Heat on a Disney World Summer Trip

As I’ve mentioned throughout this blog, summer in Orlando, Florida can be very hot.  And I’m sure you’ll want to visit a Disney theme park during your trip.

Here are some tips for how to beat the heat at a few of Disney World theme parks:
