Mount Katahdin Maine
A great place you are going to want to see and experience in Maine is Mt Katahdin, especially if you love adventure travel. Mount Katahdin was named by the Penobscot tribe and the name means “the greatest mountain”. Which is appropriate, since Mt Katahdin is Maine’s tallest mountain.
It is the northern end of the over 2,000 mile-long Appalachian Trail. Mt. Katahdin is the centerpiece of Maine’s beautiful 235,000-acre Baxter State Park. Near Mt. Katahdin (and with beautiful views of Mt. Katahdin!) is the Katahdin Woods and Waters, a wonderful place to go if you love the outdoors.
If you are an expert hiker, you will love hiking Mt. Katahdin. You’ll need to plan about eight to ten hours of straight upward hiking. But getting to the peak of Mt Katahdin, Baxter Peak, will be worth it! You can also enjoy mountain biking, canoeing, and kayaking at Katahdin Woods and Waters. Hunting and fishing are permitted in certain areas, as long as you have a Maine hunting license or Maine fishing license.
In the wintertime, you can enjoy snowmobiling here, too. You can also enjoy ski touring here in the winter, too. But this once again is not easy and most appropriate for a traveler in great shape.
