Belmont Mansion Victorian Christmas Tours

Belmont Mansion in Nashville is the largest antebellum house museum in Tennessee.  It was built in 1853 and is one of the few remaining 19th-century mansions in Nashville.  You can now tour this historic mansion whenever you visit Nashville.  It is full of 19th-century statuary that was originally in the house.  It is home to the largest collection of 19th century cast iron.  There is a good reason that the Belmont Mansion is on the National Register of Historic Places.  And visiting the Belmont Mansion makes sense for any trip to Nashville.

But perhaps it makes the most sense to visit the Belmont Mansion during the holiday season.  That is because, starting the week before Thanksgiving through the first week of January, the Belmont Mansion is decorated for the Christmas season!  You get to not only see these beautiful holiday decorations.  But you also get to understand the Victorian approach to Christmas.

For example, you’ll see a feather tree.  That is the precursor of the Christmas trees you see today.  It was a tradition imported from Germany, kugels, and more.  You’ll also learn about the legend of Saint Nicholas.  You’ll learn how his visits were a bit different from our modern-day Santa.  The Belmont Mansion definitely gives you a Victorian Christmas – just with a Southern twist!

These tours take place on Mondays and Thursdays “after hours”.  They start at 3:30 pm.  The tour lasts about an hour and a half.
