As you may or may not know, Disney World just celebrated its 50th anniversary last Friday (October 1, 2021).  It’s a really exciting time to go to Disney World right now.  There are a lot of new celebrations, fireworks show, and a new ride.  That ride is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure!

If you’ve ever been to Disneyland Paris, you may have ridden this ride before.  But it is brand new to Disney World.  It is based on the popular Pixar movie that was set in Paris, France.  So, fittingly, the ride is located in the France pavilion of Epcot.  Luckily, unlike Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, they didn’t close a ride to add this ride.  It’s just located in the back of the France pavilion along with the new La Creperie de Paris restaurant.  You can read our review for this restaurant here.  We tried that restaurant along with the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ride when we did a passholder preview last week.

Ride Expectations

So what did I think of the ride?  Well, let me start by talking about my expectations going into the ride.

Now, I get really excited for new Disney rides.  But I can’t say I was super excited for this ride.  Mainly because Ratatouille is not exactly my favorite Disney/Pixar movie.  And mainly the reason for that is that I have a fear of rats.

Now, I do like Mickey Mouse and I know he’s a mouse, but he seems more like a human to me.  The rats in Ratatouille just seem too much like the rats I’ve seen before and it just makes me uneasy.  I did try the movie and I will admit, I liked it more than I thought I would.  And I do love the music from the movie.

But I wish instead of Ratatouille, Disney World had added a ride similar to Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast that’s at Tokyo Disneyland.  That would have fit right into the France pavilion.  I would have also loved an Aristocats ride in the France Pavilion since that movie is set in Paris.  But, sadly, Disney has not yet consulted me on rides.

The other reason I was a bit hesitant about the ride is that I had heard feedback from other people that the ride made them nauseous.  I am a bit of a contradiction because while I love theme parks, I get motion sick pretty easily.  So I was a bit afraid me doing this ride would be a bad idea.

But I went into this ride prepared.  I bought these Sea-Band Anti-Nausea Acupressure Wristbands before I went.  I wore them on the drive down to Orlando, Florida and I noticed right away they help.  So I definitely recommend buying these before you go.  Another thing I did to help combat the motion sickness was to take one of these Bonine Motion Sickness Tablets the night before.  By using these, I did not get motion sick during the ride.

Ride Review

But enough about what I thought and did beforehand.  I am sure you want to know about my experience!

I am not sure if this is more of a compliment to the theming or an insult to the ride, but honestly, my favorite part was the queuing area.  But, seriously, it really is great.  All of the decor and art was great.

You'll feel like you've entered Paris, France when you step in the queuing area of Remy's Ratatouille ride in Disney World

My family loved the decor at the queuing area of Disney World's newest ride, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure!

Remy's Ratatouille Adventure is a great Epcot ride with wonderful queuing area

Even the wallpaper had classic Disney touches with subtle drawings of the characters inside the design.

I love the decor in the queuing area of the Ratatouille ride at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, like this wallpaper

But I think my favorite part of the queuing area was when it felt like you were right at Gusteau’s restaurant from the movie.  You really felt you were in Paris, France.  I loved the sounds they piped in that really helped set the mood.  I loved the noise of the dogs barking.

Arriving at Gusteau's was my favorite part of the new Disney World ride Ratatouille

Before you get on the ride, you get 3D glasses that you’ll need for the ride.

The 3D aspect of the new Ratatouille ride at Epcot in Walt Disney World makes some guests nauseous

I think that is part of the reason a lot of people get nauseous on this ride is the 3D aspect of it.  That and all the spinning you do.

Because this ride, like Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, is a trackless ride.  You get in your car which looks like you are getting in a rat.  I was kind of hoping because you got in a rat ride maybe you would be doing the ride as a rat and therefore I wouldn’t have to see rats the whole ride, but no such luck.

Part of the ride you do see oversized things in the Paris setting, and that was my favorite part of the ride.  I like that Honey I Shrunk the Kids type feeling.

Most of the ride, though, was seeing things on screens with effects to make you feel like you were, say, running along with Remy through the restaurant.  Which, again, because I dislike rats, I really can’t say I enjoyed it.  For me personally, I would have more enjoyed a ride through Paris.

But if you love the movie then I am sure you will have a different experience.  The ride probably is a lot more fun for those who love the movie.  Or at least are more familiar with the plot, since I don’t really remember it all that well.

Because of this, I am not sure I want to do this ride again.  I especially do not want to wait through a long line to do the ride again.  I was overall a bit disappointed in the ride.  Honestly, I wish Disney had spent a bit more on the ride to make it more the “Disney quality” of other rides at their parks.  I feel like you can enjoy other Disney rides more even if you haven’t seen the movie.  I actually rode the Na’vi River Journey ride before I watched Avatar and I absolutely loved that ride.  But Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure mostly focuses on watching scenes with 3D glasses.

But at least I didn’t get too motion sick, thanks to my Sea Bands and the pill I took the night before.  And again, my own personal hangups with rats probably affected my opinion of the ride too much.  It certainly did of the movie, so I think if you do love the movie you will love it more than I did.  But if you don’t love the movie, I’d probably skip it, especially if there is a long wait.

You also don’t have to just take my word.  Here is a video from the ride:
