Long-time readers at Green Vacation Deals know how highly we think of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.

You can see our tour of the resort here:

We’ve even been there for the Gingerbread House Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.  You can see the 2019 Gingerbread House Ribbon Cutting Ceremony here:

And the Grand Floridian’s seasonal gingerbread house brings me to what I want to talk about today.  And that is Disney’s Grand Floridian during the holiday season!

We think it is a wonderful place to stay during the holiday season.  So today we’re going to talk about the reasons why you should stay there.  Then we’ll give you tips on how to save money on your stay!

Grand Floridian Gingerbread House

So I already spoiled you a bit for this reason with the video of the Gingerbread House Ribbon Cutting Ceremony earlier.  But this really is a great reason to visit the Grand Floridian during the holiday season.

This year, it will be back for its twenty-fifth year.  Every year is different, and I am excited to see what they do this year.  No matter what it is, I know it will be spectacular.  In the past it’s been over seven feet tall and made out of over 10,000 pieces of gingerbread.  The pastry team has spent 500 hours baking gingerbread and 480 decorating the gingerbread house.  So it’s no surprise it is always so amazing.

Oh, and when you do visit: be on the lookout for Hidden Mickeys!

Holiday Treats

You can also get a lot of delicious holiday treats at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa during the Christmas season.

You can find some of these treats available in a cart near the Gingerbread House.  Treats you could get in the past include:

  • Mickey Mouse-shaped Poinsettia Cookie
  • Mickey-shaped Gingerbread Cookie
  • Assorted Macarons
  • Kwanzaa Sweet Potato Loaf
  • Crisped Rice Treat
  • Holiday Cinnamon Buns
  • Hot Cocoa Cookies
  • Coffee with Liqueur
  • Eggnog with Baileys
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot with Milk
  • Gingerbread Cookie Shot with Milk
  • Red Velvet Cookie Shot with Milk
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot with Liqueur
  • Cookie shot with Louis XIII Cognac
  • Cookie shot with Clase Azul Ultra Anejo

You can also find holiday treats over at Gasparilla Island Grill, Grand Floridian’s quick-service restaurant.  There are delicious holiday pastries available there that can make for a nice dessert.

Christmas Tree

If you love Christmas trees, then you’ll love the one in the lobby at Disney’s Grand Floridian.  Keeping with the theming of the hotel it is, well, grand.  It stands 44 feet tall and has 65,000 Christmas lights on it.

Access to Magic Kingdom

A great reason to stay at Grand Floridian any time of the year is the easy access to Magic Kingdom.

You can take a monorail from the second floor of the lobby.  You can also take a boat to Magic Kingdom.  To me, these are much better ways to get to Magic Kingdom than the crowded busses.

If you don’t want to bother with any wait for transportation, you can even walk to the Magic Kingdom from Grand Floridian.  It’s a bit of a walk, but definitely doable (I have done it multiple times).

So why is that great specifically during the holiday season?  Well, not only is Magic Kingdom beautiful during the holiday season (which it is).  But during the holiday season, you can also attend Magic Kingdom’s after hours event, Mickey’s Very Merry Chirstmas Party!

This is one of my favorite events at Disney World.  I love the holiday spirit, the entertainment, and especially the parade.

The one thing I don’t like about is when I stay at a hotel with only bus transportation, taking a bus back can be quite annoying.  But when I stay at Grand Floridian, I can even just walk back to the hotel which is really great.
