This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the 2022 Women’s March Madness Greensboro Region. I wanted a hotel that was both near the Greensboro Coliseum and other amenities. My family chose to stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Greensboro Coliseum Area.
We were really glad we did. We’ll tell you all we liked about the hotel – and what we didn’t like. And then we’ll tell you how you can save money on your hotel stay there!
Location
The main reason we chose this hotel is because of its location. So it should come as no surprise that that was the main reason we liked the hotel.
The location really is great. It is only a few minutes away from the Greensboro Coliseum, so it was really convenient for getting to the game.
But it is also very close to the Four Seasons Town Centre Shopping Mall.
I was able to do a lot of great shopping there the morning of the game.
It is also really close to a lot of great restaurants. We really enjoyed Darryl’s Wood Fired Grill; we reviewed the restaurant here. It is close to a lot of other restaurants, too, like sit-down restaurants like Smoky Bones and Carrabba’s Italian Grill or fast-food restaurants like Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen and Wendy’s. It’s also close to a Waffle House, which my family went to and enjoyed.
And there are even more restaurants in between the hotel and Greensboro Coliseum. We went to Olive Garden after our game and had a great dinner.
At the same time, even though the restaurant is so convenient for so many things, the hotel still feels tucked away. So you can still enjoy peace and quiet during the night while not being in too remote of a location.
So the location was the main reason we chose this hotel, and we were very pleased with the location after staying there.
Room
Another reason my family enjoyed our stay was the room.
The main thing that stands out to me about the room is how spacious the room is. There was a ton of room for our luggage. Our room even had two queen beds, but there was still a lot of room.
The room also had nice amenities, like a refrigerator, a coffee maker, an ironing board, a microwave, and hooks for coats or bags.
The room also had a nice desk, TV, and plenty of drawers.
If I had one complaint about the room, though, it would be the size of the bathroom. It was quite small. I suppose that was a downside of getting such a spacious room, though. And ultimately, more space in the main part of your hotel room is the most important.
Breakfast
Another thing I really liked about my stay at Fairfield Inn & Suites Greensboro Coliseum Area was the free breakfast. I always love when hotels have free breakfasts. It makes the hotel stay even more of a bargain because then I don’t have to pay for breakfast anywhere.
But some continental breakfasts are better than others. Luckily, this was a better one. They offered plenty of food. So much so I was able to switch up what I had at breakfast.
The hotel also had plenty of seating so we could sit down and enjoy our breakfast.
And I really liked my food. They have a waffle maker. You can make four small waffles at once, so you can split them up among your family or have them all yourself.
They have fresh fruit and yogurt. You could get warm eggs and sausage.
But I think the thing that impressed me the most at the breakfast was the milk option. I cannot have dairy milk but I can have non-dairy milk options, such as almond milk or oat milk. They had cereal but I wasn’t going to have it because I like it better with milk and I assumed the milk that they had was just dairy milk.
But then I noticed that they had oat milk! I was thrilled and started to pour the milk in my bowl but then it ran out. So then I was disappointed but almost immediately someone who worked there came up to me and asked if I needed more milk. I explained I would love oat milk or really any non-dairy milk. He soon came back with a choice of oat milk or almond milk!
I was really impressed with the attentive service and how they were willing to accommodate my allergies.
And my cereal ended up being delicious!
Pool & Fitness Room
So another plus of this hotel is that it not only has a fitness room but also an indoor pool! I love indoor pools because I easily burn so I love being able to swim without having to bother with sunblock.
But I will point out a few things about the indoor pool. It is kind of small and only goes up to four feet. There is also no hot tub, which is a feature I generally prefer with a pool. I love being able to get some laps around the pool and then relax in the hot tub.
But having said this, I still love that they have an indoor pool.
Also, another note I would add about both the fitness center and indoor pool is that you can’t use your key to get in these rooms. At this time, you actually have to go to the front desk to get a key.
Now, that may have been a change implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic and it could change. But at this time, if you are planning on taking advantage of either facility during your stay, make sure you go by the front desk so you don’t just have to keep trying your key over and over!
Additional Things I Liked
As I mentioned when referencing breakfast, I thought the service here was really great.
Another thing about this hotel I liked is the parking. There were plenty of parking spots around the hotel. And it was convenient to get from the parking lot to your room, which is not always the case with hotels.
Nightly Rates & How to Save Money
And finally, I also liked the price. That was one of the deciding factors in staying here. It was more reasonable than other hotels in the area, but it offers more features than some of the cheaper hotels. I think it is a really good compromise of quality with affordability.
