Bondi Beach, Australia Travel Guide

Australia has more than its fair share of great beaches, but Bondi Beach is definitely its most famous beach.

In 1907, a group of local swimmers at Bondi Beach got together and became the world’s first lifeguards.  During World War II, Bondi Beach was fortified by barbed wire and iron stakes.

In 2006, the reality show, “Bondi Rescues,” hit the airwaves.  The show is shot on Bondi Beach during the Australian summer, November to February and shows real-life rescues.  Also airing are beach incidents including shark scares, theft, lost children and more.  It was renewed for an 18th season and is seen in over 100 countries.

Travel Activities

Bondi Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  When you see those long rolling waves, you know this is the place to surf.  It is one of the top surfing destinations in the world.  Bondi Beach is also a great place to go swimming, sunbathing and walking.  And it is said to have the cutest lifeguards in the world.

Do what the locals do and take the Bondi to Coogee Walk.  Go along a 3.7 mile clifftop trail offering beautiful coastal vistas and cozy beaches along the way.  Or you could take the Federation Cliff Walk to Watsons Bay.  This walkway will twist above the sandstone cliffs past Australia’s oldest lighthouse and onto The Gap.  Take in stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.  This is also one of Sydney’s best spots for whale watching.

Bondi Beach is a great place to take surf lessons.

Enjoy a thrilling ride in a speed boat or a shark dive.

See all the sights on a bus tourseaplane tourwalking tour, or helicopter tour.
