This past weekend, Grand Carnivale began at Carowinds theme park in Charlotte, NC. My family went and had a blast on opening day. We really liked the entertainment, the costumes, the decor.
But the thing that stood out the most was the food. Part of the Grand Carnivale festival is the Flavors of Carnivale Section. There are five different stations set up at the front of the park for five different countries: China, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Yesterday, we reviewed the France cuisine.
But that wasn’t the only food we had at the festival! We also really enjoyed the food we got from the Germany station. The Germany market is literally right beside the France section to the right of the stage when you walk in.
Germany has different drinks you can get, but they also have three different food items. We’ll review each of these food items.
Sauerbraten Slider
The Sauerbraten Slider consists of slow-roasted, marinated beef on buttered slider buns with red cabbage, and gingersnap sauce. There is also a tomato and pickle on top.
The beef tasted good and was not too tough. The buttered slider bun was delicious and soft. I’m not a huge cabbage fan, but the red cabbage was not bad at all.
Unfortunately, I didn’t love the gingersnap sauce. This may have just been a personal preference for me, but I felt like the beef and bun would have tasted better without it. If I were to order it again, I’d see if they could hold the sauce.
Pretzel Bites
These were baked pretzel bites that came with a bock-style beer cheese sauce. I did not ever try dipping the pretzel bites into the chees, though. They were actually really soft, softer than you think when you think of pretzels. And they were so delicious. They reminded me of the pretzel rolls you can get at Biergarten Restaurant at Disney World (you can see our review of that restaurant here).
Apfelstrudel
The Apfelstrudel was a traditional German apple dessert in buttery pastry with powdered sugar and whipped cream. And it was incredible! When we got it, it was very warm and stayed warm. And once again, it was really good. It was like the kind of dessert where you find yourself scraping off the cardboard at the bottom of the dessert it is so good.
Conclusion
Just like with the French food I reviewed yesterday, the German food was also great and a good reason to visit this festival. I definitely think you will enjoy visiting Carowinds for the Grand Carnivale.
The Grand Carnivale will be taking place every night but Tuesday this summer until July 9, 2023. It runs from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. And it is included in the cost of your admission.
