St. Michael’s Episcopal Church
St. Michael’s Episcopal Church is said to be haunted by the ghost of Harriet Mackie, the ghost bride who’s appeared to visitors in the church and in the church’s graveyard. She was married on June 4, 1804, in St. Michaels. After the wedding, she felt ill and passed away within hours.
Harriet was to inherit her father’s estate after she got married. Rumors spread that she’d been poisoned, After she was buried, people began reporting seeing a wedding dress clad spirit. She’s buried in St. Michael’s graveyard.
The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon
The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon is popular with school groups. The Declaration of Independence was first read to Charlestonians on its steps, the U.S. Constitution was ratified in the Grand Hall and President George Washington visited there in 1791. But when the sun goes down, ghosts are said to roam the halls and agonized cries come from the basement.
The Provost Dungeon was used to house pirates, like Steve Bonnet and his crew. This is where captured pirates were kept before they were executed. There have been reports of disembodied screams and sounds of moving shackles. Some have reported seeing apparitions dressed in 1700s attire that disappear as they get closer.
The Mills House
The Mills House has been called the most haunted hotel in Charleston. Over the years, there have been innumerable sightings of Confederate soldiers.
