Explore over 800 years of Amsterdam history and culture on a small-group walking tour. The tour is limited to 12 people to give you an insider’s view of this beautiful city. You’ll be visiting places that can’t be reached on bus tours.

Tour Itinerary

You’ll spend most of your time in the historical center of the city within the canal belt. Your tour will begin in Beurs Square, a trading center. From there you will walk to the oldest city neighborhood, De Wallen. It is the medieval city center, crossed by canals and narrow alleys lined with bars.

De Wallen is surrounded by the neon-lit Red Light District. The name comes from the red neon lights that highlight the hundreds of windows where prostitutes work. Your guide can give you information and an understanding of how this area became prominent.

Next, you’ll walk through Chinatown to Nieumarkt, the east part of downtown, where Rembrandt’s Painter’s Guild still stands. It borders the Jewish Quarter with the Portuguese Synagogue. Your guide will tell you about the rich Jewish history in Amsterdam.

You’ll walk past the houses of the first families of the Dutch East Indies Company. You’ll walk along many of the city’s lovely canals. Your guide will point out many hidden gems that most visitors miss.

You’ll see the beautiful Bigijnhof, a courtyard with a hidden church. Walkthrough the History Museum and see some of its wonderful paintings.

View the Royal Palace and learn about its history and the history of the royal family. See the old city gates and admire the perfectly preserved 17th-century gabled houses. You’ll also see traditional Dutch houseboats on the tree-lined canals.

Wander down the busy street of Kalverstraat, the largest retail space in the Netherlands. In the Jadaan district, you’ll pass upscale art galleries, specialty shops, and restaurants.

You’ll end your tour at Westerkerk, a monument in the Canal District. Be sure to bring your camera for some great photo ops.
