The book series “Witches of New Orleans” and the popular television show “Mayfair Witches” have captured imaginations, but they are fiction.  This tour will deal with the real history of witchcraft among New Orleans oldest Uptown families.  The Big Easy is famous for its Voodoo, ghosts and vampires and now you can learn about the witches.

This tour will take you through New Orleans’ beautiful Garden District.  Step back in time as you see the world’s largest collection of 19th century Southern mansions.  You can admire the large white columns, ornate scroll work on cast iron fences and Romeo and Juliette style balconies.

As you walk through the neighborhood, your guide will point out the grand homes of some of the witches of New Orleans.  Learn about the Crescent City’s real witches who practiced, healed and changed lives with their services.  And consider how these practices were passed on to the next generations.

You’ll see the Buckner Mansion, an 18,000 square foot home.  It is the American Horror Story location of Miss Robichaux’s Academy.  In an episode in Season 3, there was a mention of Mary Oneida Toups, the High Priestess of the French Quarter in the 1970s.

You’ll also visit Lafayette Cemetery Number 1 where New Orleanians ancestors are entombed.  Also the residents here include many of the real witches of New Orleans.
