This fall, enjoy some fall family fun – while going back in time!
Yes, you heard me right, going back in time. Okay, you won’t actually go back in time. But you will feel like it with this old-fashioned train ride!
The Pumpkin Junction is a great event. It’s all possible because of the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum!
You and your family board a restored vintage railroad coach. It’s an authentic train ride behind a historic first-generation diesel-electric locomotive.
The train runs on the Calera and Shelby Railroad. That railroad runs on a portion of the former Alabama Mineral Railroad (L&N). It was established back in 1891!
It makes for a nice trip through the forests of Shelby County, Alabama. And then you get to your destination: Pumpkin Junction!
So what do you get to do at Pumpkin Junction? Well, as the name implies, you can pick out pumpkins!
But that’s not all there is to do! You can also enjoy a great hayride. Or you can take part in a variety of family games.
There will also be food vendors onsite at Pumpkin Junction. You’ll be able to buy lunch, snacks, sweet treats, or drinks. There is even wine tasting!
You’ll be able to spend around forty-five minutes at Pumpkin Junction. When it’s time to board the train again, the train whistle blows. Then you’ll take all your stuff (like any pumpkin you may have bought) with you back to the Depot so you can board the train once again.
This makes for a wonderful fall activity for the whole family. Its location makes it perfect for anyone in the Birmingham/Hoover area of Alabama. So if you are anywhere near there this fall, make sure you do this!
