No visit to Dubrovnik, Croatia, would ever be complete for a Game of Thrones fan without taking a Game of Thrones Tour. And today, I want to tell you about a specific Game of Thrones tour where you get to see so many shooting locations. I especially want to tell you about this one tour since it is currently on sale!
The tour begins at Large Onofrio’s Fountain inside the Old Town (next to the Hard Rock Cafe). Your guide will be holding a red umbrella and a Dubrovnik Walking Tours sign.
The first destination on your tour will be Pile Gate. You’ll walk towards the West entrance of the Old Town to get there. Pile Gate is where scenes from the second and third seasons were shot, such as the riots in King’s Landing.
The path under Pile Gate gets you to King Landing’s docks. You’ll get to see the beach where the royal entourage sees off Princess Myrcella to Dorne. You’ll also see Fort Bokar, where Tyrion and Lord Varys discussed strategy to win the battle of Blackwater Bay.
You’ll then stop at Dubrovnik West Harbour, which doubled for some of the Blackwater Bay and wildfire scenes.
You’ll take the steep staircase to Fort Lovrijenac, which doubled as Red Keep. The exterior of Fort Lovrijenac was used for several shots of the exterior of Red Keep, including the tourney on King Joffrey’s name day, the Purple Wedding, etc. Please note that admission to Fort Lovrijenac is not included in the cost of admission.
Next, you’ll head back to Old Town, where scenes from the streets of King’s Landing were shot. Scenes shot here include Jamie returning to King’s Landing after his imprisonment, Littlefinger’s brothel, the scenes following the Purple Wedding events, etc.
Next, you’ll get to what many consider the best part of any Game of Thrones tour: the Walk of Shame!
You may remember the memorable season from the Season 5 finale, where Cersei Lannister is forced to walk naked through King’s Landing while being shamed by the High Sparrow and citizens. Those scenes started at the Baroque stairs leading down from St. Ignatius Church.
After that, you have the option of adding Lokrum Island to your trip. You’ll take a ferry there. Lokrum Island was used for the setting of Qarth in Season 2.
Tour Accessibility
Unfortunately, this tour is not for everyone. It is not wheelchair accessible, and it is not recommended for anyone who is pregnant, has heart problems, or has any other serious medical issue.
