Refillable Mug Option

The Sand Bar does participate in Disney’s Refillable Mug System.  That means you can buy one mug and use it during your whole vacation for refills.  This includes sodas and coffee.  This can save you a lot of money (just look at how much water costs earlier!).

But a few things to note about using the refillable mug here.  You can’t buy the refillable mug, so if you want to eat here as the first meal on your trip like we did after we checked in, you’ll need to head to Contempo Cafe and purchase the refillable mug there.

A hack for saving money on your dream Disney trip

Then mention you have the refillable mug at Sand Bar.  They don’t actually refill the mug but will pour you a cup for free.

If you use the refillable mug at Disney's Contemporary Resort at Disney World and you eat at the Sand Bar, they give you a cup rather than refill your mug.

Sand Bar Contemporary Atmosphere

So as I mentioned, Sand Bar is a poolside restaurant.  You can find it behind the hotel right by the pool.

It’s an outdoor quick-service restaurant.  That means you order your food from the food service window.

Then, when it’s ready, you can go get it.  There are plenty of tables around the Sand Bar where you can enjoy your meal.

I like how these tables have umbrellas over them, because that can help reduce the heat (though in particularly hot days, I like to put a portable fan on the table with me.

Sometimes with outdoor quick service restaurants at Disney World there’s not enough seating, but that is luckily not the case here.

You can enjoy views of the pool and the hotel from your seat.  You can also enjoy great views of Bay Lake.  There is also a fountain nearby.  The trees around are beautiful, too.

Its location near the pool and the water gives it a very relaxed feel.  I also love the sound of the fountain, which adds to relaxing atmosphere.

In addition to listening to the water from the fountain, I liked the music choices.  As a child of the 90s, I liked the adult contemporary hits from the 1990s.

Food Review

A great thing about the food at the Sand Bar Grill is that the portion sizes are great.  So it makes for a good-sized meal.  We ate here for lunch, and then only had a light dinner later.

Most of my family had the Cuban Sandwich.

My family really liked the Cuban Sandwich at Disney's Contemporary Resort's quick service dining option, The Sand Bar

The Cuban Sandwich was really good, and not overly seasoned.  The pickle was one of the best parts.  The only negative was the bread was a bit hard.

The Cuban Sandwich comes with a side of French Fries, and like all the sides with French Fries, it was actually a plate of French Fries!

Our meals at the Sand Bar at Disney's Contemporary Resort came with a side of a plate of French Fries.

I loved the Shrimp Basket, which came with French Fries.

The shrimp was delicious and fresh.  It was very filling, too.  All the meals really were.

Such as the hot dog.  The All-Beef Hot Dog comes with French Fries.

It was a good-size hot dog, though not a foot-long.  But it was very good.

Visiting The Sand Bar

You don’t have to be a guest at the Contemporary Resort to visit this restaurant!  You can take a monorail or walk to the Contemporary from the Magic Kingdom.  You can bring your mug for a free drink if you are staying at another Disney hotel and you bought a refillable mug.
