If you’ve ever wanted to see the famous Christmas lights of Dyker Heights section of Brooklyn, as featured on TLC’s “Crazy Christmas Lights” and the PBS documentary “Dyker Lights”, then now is your chance, because there’s a great discounted tour available!
The Dyker Heights Christmas Lights Bus Tour is a four-hour guided bus tour. The tour takes place Thursdays through Sunday, starting at 4:30 PM. Since it will be night during the tour, it is a great way to see the beautiful Christmas lights at night.
The tour begins in midtown Manhattan on the corner of 8th Avenue and 51st Street, so this tour is perfect for anyone staying in the city for Christmas. You’ll board a luxury bus in Midtown.
From there, you’ll take a scenic bus ride with views of the New Jersey skyline and the Hudson River.
The highlight of the tour is, of course, Dyker Heights. You’ll take a one-hour walking tour through Dyker Heights so you can see all the beautifully decorated Dyker Heights homes. These houses have been famous for many years for their elaborate decorations.
Some places you could end up seeing during your tour include:
- The house of Lucy Spata, who started the Dyker Lights back in the 1980s
- The 15 foot Santa at the Polizzotto home
- The millions of lights at Robert DeLauro’s house, some lights even synchronized to music
- The house of Sam the Greek, which has been described as “Christmas Meets Las Vegas”
But this isn’t all you get to see. You’ll also get to see other festive displays in two other Brooklyn neighborhoods. You’ll see classic Christmas lights home displays in the Bay Ridge neighborhood. In the DUMBO neighborhood, you’ll see creative light installations projected onto historic buildings and illuminated waterfront displays. You’ll spend twenty minutes in each neighborhood.
Your tour ends with your bus taking you to Bryant Park in Midtown, where you can shop for handmade gifts or a festive holiday treat at their Winter Village.
