The Lunar New Year is also known as the Spring Festival or the Chinese New Year. This year it will begin on February 17, 2026, and the New Year celebrations will continue for 15 days. It is one of the most celebrated holidays in Asia and each year it gains in popularity in the U.S.
Instead of following the Gregorian Calendar, the Lunar New Year follows the Chinese Lunar Calendar. This is set to lunar phases, solar solstices and equinoxes. The Lunar New Year is connected to the new moon that occurs between the middle of January and late February.
2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse. The sign of the Horse symbolizes energy, forward movement and freedom. People born in the Year of the Fire Horse are believed to be strong and determined. This year is believed to be a year of bold moves and exploration.
The Vancouver Canucks will be celebrating Lunar New Year and the Year of the Fire Horse. The celebration will be when the Canucks play the Anaheim Ducks at 7 pm on January 29, 2026, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
